This past weekend, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles was host to Star Wars: In Concert. The multimedia event, performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, features the orchestra and choir performing music from all six Star Wars films accompanied by specifically edited footage from the sci-fi franchise. Well last night, composer John Williams made a surprise appearance at the performance and proceeded to conduct “The Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme).” Needless to say, it’s pretty damn cool. Hit the jump to watch video of the Williams-conducted performance and geek out accordingly.

Here’s the video (via @ThatChrisGore):

Wish I could have been there. John Williams is a Genius. Like Mozart.

You know something is the greatest movie score of all time when you’ve heard it butchered in shitty TV ads and videogames and you still can’t get enough of it. Bravo, Williams.

Several years back I saw him conduct a whole series of his own music with no Star Wars or Indiana Jones on the program. We all watched and were amazed by the wildly varied array of music he had conducted and then he went and did the main theme to Star Wars unannounced.

Audience went wild and I couldn’t help but be impressed with the joy and exuberance with which he conducted it after having done so for decades. It was a great moment. He also did Indy’s theme. Always respected the man, but after that night it went to a whole new level.

I know I’m a hopeless Star Wars nerd when I watch this and get chills. It’s also pretty cool to hear my 2 and a half year old trying to hum it.

I love John William’s scores, especially this one and the Superman score. But I have to say that when I watched “Triumph of the Will” in a University class years ago, I was immediately reminded of this march. I think that soundtrack influenced him. Hey, everyone is influenced by someone.
