A few hours ago I attended two press conferences for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland in Hollywood.  In attendance was almost the entire main cast, and in the coming days you can expect a lot of interviews.  But with Johnny Depp providing updates on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Dark Shadows, and The Tourist, I wanted to get what he said about those projects online today.

The quick info is The Tourist starts shooting on Tuesday in Venice (the project he's doing with Angelina Jolie, click here for more on the film), with Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom not in the 4th Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Depp says don't expect it to be all Jack Sparrow.  And regarding his passion project Dark Shadows, Depp told me "I see it going this year."

The thing to know about Dark Shadows is...Depp still has to film the 4th Pirates movie this summer (after The Tourist) so it's not close to going.  But when I asked him after the press conference ended about Dark Shadows and if he still sees it going this year, I could see him light up when talking about the project, so it's clearly something he really wants to do.

Here's exactly what Depp said.  Also, since today's press conference was filled with at least 50 journalists from around the world, I want to credit Fred Topel for asking the Pirates of the Caribbean questions, Heather Newgen from Coming Soon for asking The Tourist questions, and I asked all the Dark Shadows questions.

Question: When does The Tourist star shooting?

Depp: Tuesday.

What was it about the part that made you want to sign on?

Depp: I liked the French film. I liked it a lot.  My friend played the part in that and I liked it. So I thought it might be interesting to explore this kind of character. You never know what's going to happen.  I suspect there maybe paparazzi in Venice.

How's Dark Shadows going?

Depp: It's coming along now.

Johnny, we heard there is no Keira Knightley or Orlando Bloom in the next Pirates, is it going to be more Jack Sparrow front and center?

Depp: Yeah, there's no Keira or Orlando in there. I don't know. I don't think we'd ever throw too much Jack Sparrow in there. There will be a little bit of everybody.

You were sort of wavering after Dick Cook left.  Have you regained your confidence and what reassured you?

Depp: One thing that I found very reassuring was a very good conversation with Dick Cook, who is someone who I admire greatly and, so yeah, that helped a lot. And also, knowing that we're coming at it from a different angle at this point, Rob Marshall and totally new take, it's a new story.

What did Dick Cook say after he left?

Depp: He was a perfect gentleman about the entire...

Do you definitely see Dark Shadows going this year or is it one of those still on the fence?

Depp: No, I see it going this year. I hope it does. I do, yeah.

Here's an interview I did with Depp last June where he talked more about Dark Shadows and Alice in Wonderland.
