After turning out a string of hit animates series for FOX — Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show – writer/actor/producer Seth MacFarlane is teaming with the network again for his first live-action TV show, an as yet untitled sci-fi comedic hour-long series. And now, he’s locked Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau to direct and executive produce the pilot episode of the straight-to-series project. THR reports that Favreau will afterward remain on board as EP and consultant.

While details are still pretty scarce at this point, the show is said to be set 300 years in the future where it follows the adventures of the Orville — “a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar Fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before.”

MacFarlane, who wrote the pilot script and serves as executive producer, will also star in the series as Ed, the captain of the Orville. He’s joined by Adrianne Palicki, who plays Ed’s ex-wife and the newly appointed first officer of the Orville, and Scott Grimes, who plays Ed’s best friend and the Orville’s pilot. Peter Macon and J Lee also star.

Favreau is currently riding on the success of The Jungle Book, which was a critical smash with 95% on Rotten Tomatoes and an even bigger box office hit, earning $955,544,563 worldwide since it opened in theaters on April 15th. Favreau is already at work on a sequel, which he’s set to return to as director alongside screenwriter Justin Marks. Favreau also continues to serve as an executive producer over at Marvel, after kicking off the universe with Iron Man back in 2008. In the TV realm, Favreau has previously directed episodes of Undeclared, Revolution and The Office and served as an executive producer on the first season of The Shannara Chronicles.

Production on the new series kicks off in January and the show is expected to debut sometime in the 2017-18 Season.
