Jon Favreau Joins THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, Liev Schreiber Boards THE BUTLER and New Details on Jay Baruchel’s Possible Role in the ROBOCOP Reboot

We’ve got a few big names for some big projects in casting news today, so let’s get to it:

  • Jon Favreau is set to join director Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, starring Leonardo DiCaprio in the adaptation of Jordan Belfort’s memoir.
  • Liev Schreiber is on board for Lee Daniels’ The Butler, the biopic of longtime White House staffer, Eugene Allen.  The picture already sports an impressive cast, featuring Forest Whitaker, David Oyelowo, and Oprah Winfrey as the three leads.
  • We previously reported that Jay Baruchel was circling a role in the RoboCop reboot by Elite Squad director, Jose Padilha.  New details have now emerged for his possible character.

jon-favreau-the-wolf-of-wall-streetFirst up from Deadline comes word that Favreau is set to play a securities lawyer in The Wolf of Wall Street.  The story follows the hard partying, drug addicted stockbroker (DiCaprio) who was indicted in 1998 for security fraud and money laundering, and served a 22-month federal prison stretch.  The supporting cast includes last year’s Best Actor winner Jean Dujardin, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler and Jon Bernthal, Margot Robbie and Rob Reiner. 

Deadline also reports that Schreiber will join The Butler as President Lyndon B. Johnson, who succeeded to the position after John F. Kennedy’s assassination.  James Marsden will play the part of JFK with Minka Kelly as his wife.  Other presidential players include Robin Williams as Dwight D. Eisenhower, John Cusack as Richard Nixon and Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan.

From Heat Vision come details of the role that Baruchel is circling in RoboCop.  He would play OmniCorp’s head of marketing, doing his best to talk up the police cyborg program to the good people of Detroit.  The picture stars Joel Kinnaman in the title role with Hugh Laurie, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Abbie Cornish and Jackie Earle Haley supporting.  The picture is set to shoot this September in Toronto.
