Edgar Wright’s last film came out over two years ago. That wasn’t the initial plan, as we all know, he was set to direct Ant-Man from a script he co-wrote, but he eventually left the project over creative differences. It was an unfortunate parting, but someone with as much talent and creativity as Wright was sure to move on to another great project. And it would appear that project is taking shape, with a very promising new addition.

According to Variety, Jon Hamm is set to star in the writer-director’s next project, Baby Driver. Hamm will be joining a very impressive cast that includes Jamie Foxx (Django Unchained), Lily James (Cinderella), and Ansel Elgort (The Fault In Our Stars) As we previously reported, the film follows a young getaway driver who “relies on the beat of his personal soundtrack to be the best in the game. After being coerced into working for a crime boss, he must face the music when a doomed heist threatens his life, love and freedom.”

It sounds like an interesting set up, increasingly so with the talent it has attracted. It would appear Elgort is the getaway driver and James his love interest. So that would mean either Foxx or Hamm play the crime boss, and honestly, either one would do a great job with it. Neither one has really played a full-fledged ‘bad guy’ (not considering Foxx’s turns in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 or Hamm in Mad Men).

From the wording of the plot outline, it sounds like music will be an important feature in the film. That should prove rather interesting with a creative mind like Wright, who has shown his musical sensibilities with films like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.

Baby Driver will start production soon with a March 17, 2017, release date.
