A couple of days ago we reported on the rumor that Warner Bros. was considering Jon Hamm for the role of Superman in their upcoming reboot, The Man of Steel. Sadly, it seems it was too good to be true. Hamm appeared this morning on Live with Regis and Kelly while promoting The Town and denied the news. The actor said, “It’s sort of news to me.” He continued, “If that’s something that the powers that be are thinking about, I hope they get in touch with me. We can maybe discuss it.” I think I speak for most of the internet when I say that I hope the powers that be get in touch with him too.
With production set to start on The Man of Steel sometime next year, I’m sure we will know who WB wants to wear the iconic costume in the next few months. In the meantime, we can only keep wishing that Hamm’s name is on some executive’s list as a possible choice. You can watch the clip of Hamm addressing the rumors after the jump.

Just bring back Brandon Routh. Say what you want about Singer’s film, but Routh was great in the role.
Its a reboot, not happening and i for one am glad.
Damn, we’ll probably get stuck with Channing Tatum and his pass-the-bong zombie stare.
Bummer. I was really liking this rumor.
Devastated! The internet was buzzing with mostly positive things about Superman again when Hamm was mentioned for the role. This could have been fresh, and modern, and done how the comics are now.
While i liked Routh in the role, everything around him in that film was dire! Is that really how Singer spends around 300million bucks? On a rock? On turning Australia into metrolpolis? How come Avatar looks so much more expensive than SR when there probably wasnt much more cash spent on budget? Singer is overrated! And all the xmen films are too.
The thing about Returns’ uber budget is; the film had several false-starts over the course of about ten years that ultimately crumbled. Those failed productions’ costs are included in the budget of Superman Returns.
there is still no director. and that’s what’s important. and though i would love to see Jo Nolan directing a feature, i’d rather he do something personal first. have somebody who has directed(and a good track record) direct Superman. there are other awesome directors waiting to be recognised
Uh, you’d have to be complete moron to NOT THROW MOUNTAINS of $$$ at Hamm. It’s obvious he’s perfect for the role…with the exception being Routh. He is an equally excellent. Either one.
He also said the same thing last night on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. However, he was a little more self-deprecating, saying things like, “well, perhaps if this Superman’s powers are to find a sweet parking space at 7-Eleven, or mall walking… I think I’ve aged out of the role.”
I do think he would make a great, older Superman and it’d be an interesting take on the Superman story that we haven’t seen before.
