The trailer for Jonah Hex has gone online and I don’t think it’s going to remove any of the doubts raised by the 11th-hour marketing.  The footage I saw of the film at last year’s Comic-Con was very simple and very bad-ass: Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) kills everyone.  His line in the trailer about his enemies needing eight coffins instead of five isn’t going to get that idea across (of course, this is provided the final cut of the film still holds to Hex-Murders-the-World).

But the biggest problem is that this trailer is all over the place.  It’s a vengeance story in the old west but Hex also has superpowers and everybody wants to fight him for some reason.  The weapons look cool, but on the whole the trailer seems like it’s trying too hard.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer along with the official synopsis.  Jonah Hex hits theaters on June 18th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Jonah Hex:

Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone…and anything. Having survived death, Jonah’s violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the “other side.” His only human connection is with Leila (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own. But Jonah’s past is about to catch up with him when the U.S. military makes him an offer he can’t refuse: in exchange for his freedom from the warrants on his head, he must track down and stop the dangerous terrorist Quentin Turnbull (John Malkovich). But Turnbull, who is gathering an army and preparing to unleash Hell, is also Jonah’s oldest enemy and will stop at nothing until Jonah is dead. Based on the legendary graphic novel, “Jonah Hex” is an epic adventure thriller about one man’s personal quest for redemption against the vast canvas of the battle between good and evil.

  1. Man, Corey Webster has come a long way. This looks awesome. It's nice to see Michael Fassbender too. Just when I think Im over her Megan FOX pulls me back in.

  2. Wow! I predict Jonah Hex will be the Battlefield Earth of this decade. Holy Moly that is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. THey show the entire movie. Megan Fox looks cute but desparately needs acting coaches. Even Brolin acting like he’s thinking to himself why the hell did I agree to do this stinkeroo! LMFAO. Having said that, I can’t wait to see it. This is gonna be one of those unintentional laugh out loud comedies. Cheezefest!

  4. The trailer is all over the place – kinda makes it seem uninteresting.

Why do directors get sucked into westerns. Just look at their box office record over the last 20 years to see how much they've underperformed. 3:10 to Yuma was an exception. Here's hoping Cowboys & Aliens doesnt suffer the same outcome.
