Akiva Schaffer's Neighborhood Watch needs an X-factor.  It's got a great premise: dads use a suburban neighborhood watch group as cover for getting away from their families but then they uncover a plot to destroy the world.  Having Lonely Island's Akiva Schaffer directing from a script by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen doesn't hurt either.  Unfortunately, it's got Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn in the lead roles and I'll give you 10-to-1 odds that Stiller will play a timid straight man and Vaughn will play a fast-talking wise guy who has comically bad things happen to him.  Rosemarie DeWitt joined the film yesterday to play Stiller's wife (I'm betting she's going to give him a skeptical glance when he tries to hide the world-destroying plot from her).

But the film may finally get an unknown quality as Vulture reports that Jonah Hill is in talks to join the flick.  It's not unknown as to whether or not Hill will be hilarious.  That's pretty much a given.  However, we don't know how he'll play his character.  Hill has had enough diversity in his young career and unlike Stiller and Vaughn, his characters haven't fallen into a clearly defined type.  If you need proof, he's got The Sitter and Moneyball coming out this fall and those two films couldn't be more different (unless Moneyball has a surprising amount of swearing at children).
