Unsurprisingly, CBS is moving forward with a Sherlock Holmes series hot on the heels of the success of BBC’s fantastic Holmes update Sherlock. The American version is titled Elementary, and Deadline reports that CBS has settled on a lead for the pilot: Jonny Lee Miller. Miller previously starred on the ABC series Eli Stone and most recently appeared in an arc on Showtime’s Dexter. Elementary is a contemporary take on the Arthur Conan Doyle character and finds Holmes living in New York City. Given that it’s on CBS, we can presumably expect a heavy procedural aspect with little to no reason to tune in every single week. Nevertheless, should CBS pick the pilot up to series, the show is likely to be a hit; audiences over 50 love them some crime procedurals that don’t ask them to remember things from one week to the next.
Coincidentally, Miller appeared on Danny Boyle’s stage version of Frankenstein alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, the Sherlock of Sherlock. The actor also has roles in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows and alongside Saoirse Ronan in Byzantium.

WHY?
Isnt it weird how both Jonny and Benedict (BBCs Sherlock) both played the monster in Danny Boyles stage version of Frankenstein?
Wow- if you thought those two (Benedict C. and Jonny Lee) had their lives intertwined before, with Frankenstein – now it is emerging even further.
I don’t think there’s place for 3 Sherlok Holmes in pop-cultureland. ANd the other two got the standard pretty up.
Especially since CBS can do neither smart or Fun character driven procedurals. You have to go to FX Justified if you want complex crime drama in your life. This probably won’t make it past the pilot stage.
Viewers over 40 can’t remember a plot line from one week to the next? What?? What kind of idiot wrote this review?
This is bad. So very, very bad. Why on earth would he be doing this? Why? And… why? It looks like Jonny Lee Miller but it tastes like disappointment.
Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes? This will end badly…. Jonny can’t command the inner demons and neurosis that is required to play the part….. Standards for crazy Holmes have been set by Benedict and Downey Jr….
i agree with everything mr chitwood said
Oh dear.
This is quite possibly the worst idea I’ve ever heard.
