Josh Gad may or may not play legendary film critic Roger Ebert in an upcoming film.  Earlier today, word surfaced that the Book of Mormon star is the top choice to play Ebert opposite Will Ferrell in Russ & Roger Go Beyond, a film that focuses on the relationship between Ebert and provocative director Russ Meyer, who helmed Ebert’s one and only screenplay credit Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.  So when Steve spoke with Gad earlier today in anticipation of the release of his new comedy The Wedding Ringer, he asked the actor about the prospect of playing Ebert in the film.  See what he had to say in response after the jump.

David Permut, who is producing the indie Russ & Roger Go Beyond, revealed that Gad is the top choice to play Ebert while speaking with Hollywood-Elsewhere, and The Wrap followed up by adding that an offer has yet to be made to Gad.  But when Steve caught up with the actor at the Wedding Ringer junket, he dismissed the notion as simply rumors for now.  The actor went on to say that he’s reading scripts at the moment, closing with a “we’ll see”, so it sounds like Russ & Roger Go Beyond may be one of the projects he’s considering, but no final decision has been made.
