Josh Hutcherson (Cirque du Freak) is reportedly on the short list to play the lead in Marc Webb’s reboot of the Spider-Man franchise. We previously reported that Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson) almost had the gig and then learned that he was never anywhere close to the gig. IESB (who are probably still doing a touchdown dance over breaking the Joss Whedon-Avengers story) reports that Hutcherson has been bulking up lately but more importantly, he fits the criteria for the new Spidey actor: “young, unknown, cheap” (a description which disturbingly also fits dead hookers).
Hit the jump for my positive reaction to the possibility of casting Hutcherson as the new Peter Parker.
Unlike Lerman, who did nothing to wow me in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, I’ve been liking Hutcherson for the past several years. I think he did great work in Zathura, Journey to the Center of the Earth, and he was one of the few good things in Cirque du Freak. IESB also says Hutcherson has received rave reviews for his performance in the hit Sundance film The Kids Are All Right. Finally, Hutcherson is co-starring in the upcoming Red Dawn remake which is due out in theaters this November.
My one reservation about Hutcherson is that of the characters I’ve seen him play, they all have a bit of an edge to them. Peter Parker isn’t an edgy character. He’s not bland, but he is straight-laced and nerdy. I can still see Hutcherson in the role, but if he gets the part, it will be interesting to see how his approach will differ from his past work, let alone stepping out from Tobey Maguire’s massive shadow.

“'young, unknown, cheap' (a description which disturbingly also fits dead hookers)” — hahaha!
Little Manhattan
no thanks, freddie highmore!?
wouldn't he be better fit for eddie brock lol
lerman has a natural likability to him which is essential for Parker
Hutcherson is way better than Lernan. He has more acting experience. He has been in a lot of movies unlike Lerman who was just in ONE!! Hutcherson have also several nominations and awards and Lerman is very NEW to this acting industry. Hutcherson could do it BETTER because he had training for the action movie, RED DAWN. Those training are PARKOUR and MILITARY training that would surely make him fit for the role. Plus, Hutcherson has been in the acting industry for a long time and he DESERVES that bigtime SPIDERMAN role to give him a reward for all the hardwork he has done. This could be his TURNING POINT in his career. He deserves this.
Logan has been in plenty of movies. Not just Percy Jackson.
He has also starred in a tv show.
Not to mention he's been nominated (and won some for that matter) for at least 5 awards that I'm aware of.
The best part about Logan? He doesn't have “the same character” in every movie he's in. Everything I've seen Josh in, he acts the same.
Next time you decide to say something about someone, at least know what you're talking about.
Lerman had only one bigtime movie and I appreciate that, but try to think of both sides with no bias. Lerman has not yet done much. He has to prove his worth for the role of spiderman first. The role should be portrayed by a good actor. It shouldn't be a mistake.
He's only been the star of one big movie, yes, but that still doesn't take away the fact that some of his smaller stuff is good too. It's not all about how much you've done, it's about how well you do in it. And, in my opinion, I don't think Josh is right for the part. Like I said, everything I've seen him in he has the same attitude. Kinda like he's playing the same character, just in a different environment. So the way you see Lerman needing to prove his worth, I see Josh needing to prove his worth. Either way, I just hope they don't screw this reboot up.
Yeah, we're different in our opinions and let's just respect each other. After all, we won't be the ones to decide. Let's just hope that they will pick the one who would really be more fit for the role. Peace out.
Agreed. Peace. x)
Um., I just want to know how old you are?:)
Hm.. ok? xD I'm 15.
No way. Me too! I'm 15. Hahaha.
Really?? Haha, sweet

I think josh would be super as spidey. He is the right age, versatile as shown by his many different roles in good movies in recent years; and is hardworking has a great attitude, and certainly athletic enough to perform many of his stunts. Sony would be wise to choose this young man.
I definately go with Josh Hutcherson. He can totally play as Peter Parker/Spider-Man for the new movie. Have him play as Spidey.
