Ever since the announcement that the Spider-Man franchise would be rebooted, there has been a whirlwind of casting rumors which must approaching an end.  A source over at Blue Sky Disney sounds pretty confident that extensive testing convinced Sony and director Marc Webb that Josh Hutcherson (Journey to the Center of the Earth) for the role of Peter Parker; the studio reportedly extended an offer, which Hutcherson accepted.  More after the jump:

josh_hutcherson_imageHutcherson’s name has been in contention for awhile, but his name was absent from latest rumored shortlist:

  • Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass)
  • Anton Yelchin (Star Trek)
  • Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief)
  • Andrew Garfield (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
  • Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot)
  • Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro).
  • Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half -Blood Prince)
  • Michael Angarano (Gentlemen Broncos)

Some guessed that Hutcherson may have schedule conflicts due to the fall production of the Journey to the Center of the Earth sequel, although there was some controversy about the validity over Deadline’s initial report.

It’s too soon to treat this news as official, but can you envision Hutcherson in the red-and-blue suit?  I do appreciate that, at 17, he is age-appropriate for the role.

The Spider-Man reboot is slated for a 3D release on July 3, 2012.

Please tell me this isnt true. What a bland and uninspiring choice.

Why do I have the feeling that this reboot is going to suck?

Bad choice. Probably my least favorite on the short list. Preferred Jamie Bell.

agree with everyone on this board, this choice is so inappropriate. Hutcherson just doesn't strike one as Peter Parker. and physically he's just too short and has a blockhead to play Spiderman

Logan Lerman is the best choice if it's a teen spidey. Is this website credible?

I really thought Jamie Bell was the right choice, especially since they wanted to make the story kind of dark and gritty. Hutcherson is a decent actor so i guess will see how this all develops.

Oh a new article about the unnecessary Spider-Man reboot. I might as well read it, it's not like it could say anything that would make me hate the idea even more. Wait what's this… Josh Hutcherson as Spider-Ma–

    *hurp* *horurp* *BLAHRGH*

Ugh, looks like I'll be Thcleaning up my own puke off the keyboard.

Sony is pathetic to the nth degree. Why the heck are they rebooting this story? I suspect they want to milk the skinny jeans/ left over New Moon crowd with high price 3D(BS!!!!!) tickets.
They are hiring NOBODY(meaning cheap) actors and some discount director while they will charge $15.00 for the ticket. MATINEE PRICES!!!
