I have no idea how Joss Whedon is going to reign back expectations with his upcoming film “Cabin in the Woods” (and it’s not even totally his film! He just co-wrote it! Long-time collaborator Drew Goddard is directing). The sub-par “Dollhouse” airing every week probably helps. But while the news Bradley Whitford and Richard Jenkins getting cast was tremendous, today’s news about the kids in the cabin is…well, they’re kids. The five young actors having good times in the middle of the forest with no one to help them are Kristen Connolly (“Revolutionary Road”), Chris Hemsworth (“Star Trek”), Anna Hutchison (“Underbelly”), Fran Kranz (“The Village”) and Jesse Williams (“The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2”). Kranz is the only one previously associated with Whedon as he currently plays the smarmy programmer Topher on “Dollhouse”.
Says Whedon of his new kids on the chopping block, “Finding this ensemble has been very hard and very rewarding. Each of the ‘kids’ is unique, fascinating and talented, and like true friends, the group is more than the sum of its parts. These are people you care about, able to go toe to toe with the amazing actors we’ve corralled thus far, and not unpretty in the bargain. I can’t wait to harm them.” Oh, Joss. Always murdering teenagers. I can’t believe he didn’t get enough of that on “Buffy”.
Filming has already begun in Vancouver and while the film was originally set for an October 23rd release date, it’s been moved to February 5th, 2010 because nothing can compete with the almighty and all-terrible “Saw” franchise.
