It appears that we have unknowingly gotten our first glimpse at director Joss Whedon’s take on The Avengers. Stellan Skarsgard, who starred in Thor and is set to reprise his character in Marvel’s mega-superhero flick The Avengers, has revealed that the post-credits sequence for Thor wasn’t directed by Kenneth Branagh but was actually helmed by Whedon himself. In lieu of spoiling the sequence for people that have yet to see the film, hit the jump for more.

In an interview with Empire, Skarsgard revealed that the sequence following the credits of Thor, involving himself and Samuel L. Jackson, was shot just a couple of months ago. Given that Thor director Branagh was presumably busy finishing post-production work on the film, it makes sense that Whedon stepped in to direct the short scene, especially since he was probably knee-deep in Avengers prep and itching to get started.

The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo. The flick is currently filming, and will be released in 3D on May 4th, 2012.
