After Journey 2: The Mysterious Island proved to be an international box office smash, New Line Cinema was quick to get all the behind-the-scenes folks back on board for a third go-round in the franchise.  Reports indicated that they were quite keen on getting the front-of-camera contributors back under contract as well, and now, it looks like Dwayne “Don’t call me ‘The Rock’, because I’m an actor now” Johnson is in talks to reprise his role as Hank, stepfather to Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson); Johnson first came aboard the franchise to replace Brendan Fraser, who was felled by a tragic case of not wanting to do the second film.  Hit the jump for more. The Wrap reports that Johnson may very well return for a third Journey after the overwhelming success of the most recent effort.  Journey 2 has been holding the number one international box office standing for the last four weeks and has already pulled in over $30 million more than the original.  One would imagine that Hutcherson is also likely to return (though it’s not confirmed and he’s been fairly in-demand of late), but the participation of fellow Journey 2 castmates Luis Guzman, Vanessa Hudgens, Michael Caine and that giant bee that totally carried Michael Caine is at present uncertain. Writers Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn are returning along with director Brad Peyton. Peyton previously commented that they're looking to "grow the mythology," which can be interpreted as "we're running out of Jules Verne material." You can look forward to seeing the third installment of the Journey franchise some time in 2014journey-2-the-mysterious-island-poster
