I’ve missed Stephen Chow. He heated up in the early 2000s with Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, but he’s been quiet since 2008′s CJ7. Although he’s produced several projects, we’ll finally be getting his latest directorial effort with the upcoming Journey to the West (a.k.a A Chinese Odyssey, a.k.a Odyssey). Chow co-directed the film with Derek Kok, and if you can figure out what the movie is about from the trailer, then congratulations. The only thing the first trailer seems to tell us is that this madness came from the mind of Chow, and that’s good enough for me.
Hit the jump to check out the trailer. Journey to the West is due out in Hong Kong on February 7th. Hopefully, we’ll get a U.S. release some day.

Not sure what was supposed to be happening there, but the hand at the end made me think about the end of Kung Fu Hustle, which was a terrific movie. While I didn’t like Shaolin Soccer as much, it was still a pretty enjoyable experience and I’ll definitely be looking for this one in theaters or VOD if I have to do it that way.
Definitely watched the wrong vid. Had to look it up on my phone since I was at work. Definitely gonna see this now whenever it comes out here, whether it be in theaters or VOD.
I think I saw a different teaser/trailer actually. Had to look it up on my phone since I’m at work and can’t get on video sites like youtube. Even more interested in seeing it now that I’ve seen a real trailer. Still have no idea what’s going on though.
Uhhhhh well presumably this is about the legend of the Monkey King? Pretty classic folklore.
See Damon Albarn’s musical
One would think, but it doesn’t look too much like that.
i from hong kong, and i can tell u right now, that trailers in china/hong kong are never coherent like the ones in the US, they are more so just a collection of clips to show u who is in it and the most expensive shots/sets
that being said, this might still be an interesting film
Journey to the west is a pretty known tale. Dragon ball and the game Enslaved are based in this story. Monkey from Enslaved, Goku with his tale are the Monkey king
Another weird adaption of the Monkey King?
There’s a Fox International Pictures?
