Though he ultimately didn’t land the Harry Osborn role in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man 2, it appears that burgeoning newcomer Eddie Redmayne will be just fine. The actor was in the running for the pivotal role in the Spider-Man sequel that eventually went to Dane DeHaan, but now the Les Miserables star has landed an equally (if not more) exciting role: a part opposite Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis in writers/directors Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski’s sci-fi film Jupiter Ascending. Hit the jump for more.
Per Variety, Redmayne is in negotiations to join the cast of the Warner Bros. sci-fi pic. The story “is set in a time where humans are at the bottom of the evolutionary ladder and follows a woman who has been targeted for assassination by the queen of the universe.” It’s pretty out there stuff, but with the Wachowski siblings nothing is ever straightforward. Details regarding Redmayne’s role are under wraps, but if the ambition on display in Cloud Atlas is any indication, we’re in for something special with Jupiter Ascending.
The London-born Redmayne has been coming into the spotlight as of late, since his co-starring turn in last year’s My Week with Marilyn. He stars opposite Amanda Seyfried in the upcoming musical adaptation Les Miserables, and has become a regular on the frequent shortlists of young actors that are being eyed for high profile roles (including Guardians of the Galaxy). Production on Jupiter Ascending is scheduled to get underway in February of next year, and I can’t wait to see what Lana and Andy have up their sleeves.
