Director Colin Trevorrow Addresses JURASSIC PARK 4 Rumors; Says He Needs to Make a Case for “Why the Hell There’s a JP4 in the First Place”

     August 15, 2013

Universal Pictures made an admirable decision with regards to the upcoming Jurassic Park 4 recently, in a move that’s become rare for big franchise tentpoles.  Instead of rushing towards an announced summer 2014 release date, the studio opted to slow things down and make sure the story for director Colin Trevorrow’s sequel was in good shape before moving into production.  As such, JP4 is now positioned for a 2015 release and Trevorrow continues to hone the script with the input of producer Steven Spielberg.

Thus far, details regarding the fourth entry in the Jurassic Park franchise have been practically non-existent.  An early image shared by Trevorrow suggests that the film will return to Isla Nublar, but the rumor machine has been plenty busy in the meantime trying to fill in the gaps.  Trevorrow recently addressed said rumors and talked about his take on the Jurassic Park franchise, noting that he not only has to please longtime fans of the series but he also aims to make a case for why the film is worthwhile in the first place.  Hit the jump to read on.

jurassic-park-4While appearing on the Jurassic Park Podcast (via Bleeding Cool), Trevorrow talked a bit about the new JP film without really getting into any kinds of specifics.  He did, however, take a moment to comment on the many rumors that have surrounded the pic:

“I saw some of the rumours on the internet and I would have all kinds of red flags going off if I heard they were going to muzzle a T-Rex. So I would say don’t believe everything you read, there are way more insiders on the internet than there are in real life.”

Not only could said rumors be unfounded, but the script is still being worked on so it really is quite early to start confirming details about to the film’s plot.  The Safety Not Guaranteed filmmaker also talked about his aim of trying to please two sets of audiences with the film:

“It’s important to make a movie for the fans but I also have to remember that there’s a lot of people who just couldn’t care less and need me to make a solid case for why the hell there’s a Jurassic Park 4 in the first place, and I want to make a movie for them too.”

“This is not a paycheck gig for me and it’s not the movie that I’m making so I can make the movies that I really want to make. I actually want to make a kick-ass Jurassic Park movie.”

Listen to Trevorrow’s appearance on the podcast below.  Expect production on Jurassic Park 4 to get underway sometime next year in anticipation of a 2015 release date.  As previously confirmed, Trevorrow will be shooting in 3D.
