The Justice League is using their superpowers to fight real-world problems, and the latest is the Dakota Access Pipeline. In a new video posted online by Change.org, Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and Ezra Miller (The Flash) have banded together to film a new PSA video in solidarity with the protestors.
Protestors, especially those from Native American tribes, fear the new pipeline, which will travel across four states, will disturb sacred land and taint their drinking water supplies. Hundreds of Native Americans from across the country gathered in North Dakota, marking the largest Native American protest in more than 100 years. The act recently turned violent as security officers threatened to sic dogs on the protestors.
“As a gang of Earth defenders, we want to send a big shoutout to the Oceti Sakowin and those who stand with them in opposing the Dakota Access Pipeline,” Miller said in the video. A petition opposing the pipeline on Change.org acquired more than 260,000 signatures.
Watch the video, which is notably missing a Superman, a.k.a. Henry Cavill, below.
In true Aquaman fashion, Momoa spoke out against the pipeline earlier this year with a message to his Instagram followers. “I support the #NativeYouth of #StandingRockRez,” he wrote. “I signed the petition to stop the #DakotaAccess Pipeline.”
In Justice League, the DC heroes will have a much more world-ending threat to face. Batman and Wonder Woman have to join forces again to rally the superhuman troops to face the Apokolips villain Steppenwolf, though Affleck recently teased the presence of Deathstroke as well. Zack Snyder directs the film after helming the critically eviscerated Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice; it will help to further prep the DC Extended Universe for solo films about Aquaman, Cyborg, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Shazam!
