Meet the JUSTICE LEAGUE: Which Heroes Are In, Who Was Left Out and Who Might Make a Cameo?

As you can see from the above image, not everyone who’s historically been in DC’s Justice League will make it into Warner Bros. Justice League in 2015. The only confirmed creative type on the picture is screenwriter Will Beall (Gangster Squad) as no director or cast is in place yet, but it looks as if we might have a solid core of characters we can expect to see on screen.  We posted an extensive list of possible superheroes a couple of weeks ago, along with the rumors of the movie’s villain and source material.  That list has been whittled down considerably.  Hit the jump to see who made the cut, who missed out and who might pop up as a cameo.

justice-league-movieThe reliable troop at Latino Review report that the following costumed crime-fighters will form the core of Justice League:

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and The Flash

Not exactly earth-shattering news.  What’s more interesting is who might also be making an appearance, either as a brief cameo or as a possible credits scene with lead-ins to the inevitable sequel.  The article reports that Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter have the highest possibility of a cameo, with Hawkman rounding out the list as the slimmest chance.  Their money and mine go to Manhunter for some extra power and cosmic background.  The League is going to need all the help they can get to go up against Darkseid, so we’ll see how this plays out (sorry, Green Arrow).

Also, it’s a shame that the female superheroes are once again outnumbered.  While The Avengers was light on gender equality on screen, Justice League has a chance to attract more female fans by leveling the playing field a bit.  Don’t get me wrong, Wonder Woman is an essential member of the team, but there has been nary a mention of Black Canary, Zatanna or Hawkgirl.  It looks like Justice League is sticking with the original members.  Let’s hope it’s a successful adaptation that has a chance to add some variety further down the line.

Who would you be excited to see in Justice League?  For that matter, who would you like to see play the core characters?  Let us know in the comments!

i don’t want this movie to happen

It really sucks that WB couldn’t have been patient and attempted to build a universe like Marvel Studios did. They just saw the big bucks The Avengers made instead of what actually made it successful. The fact that it was a gathering of characters that the audience already knew pretty well. I want it to be good so that it will succeed. But I have my doubts, Green Lantern was the chance they had to start the building blocks for a DC movieverse and they completely blew it . Maybe Man of Steel will start that process? We can only hope it is.

There doesn’t need to be a build up for a JL movie. It is entirely possible to introduce these characters and get to the threat very easily. Hell, you don’t even need back stories. What they do need is a writer and director who understands how to handle an ensemble cast, give everyone their screen time and make them interact naturally. Now, I’m not so sure Beall can do this because Gangster Squad had very bland characters, but this could have been a directorial issue (haven’t read the script). It also doesn’t help that they are trying to enter an already saturated market, with Marvel in full force cranking out Phase 2, as well as trying to go head to head with Avengers 2. Pretty soon, people are going to get very tired of seeing superhero movies coming out every other month.

      • TheTruth

Even if they did lead in movies, it’d probably end up as lousy as The Avengers.

      • cattyflash

omg enough with the buildup people. Not every movie needs a build up. Did the Rat Pack need separate Sinatra, Martin, Davis Jr. movies? Did X-men need separate movies? Fantastic Four? The Incredibles? Did Chewbacca get his own movie before Star Wars?

I really really wanted Aquaman. He’s just sooo bad ass in the New 52. Real shame he isn’t a founding member. I would love to see the Throne of Atlantis story line in a Justice League movie eventually.

Can’t they get Adrian Grenier to play Aquaman? It’s not like he has anything else going on at the moment

    • Person

Haha might as well get Cameron to direct, too. He’s not doing much either (where’s that Avatar sequel?).

  • Alex

they should get the black voice actor from the JL cartoon to play the real Green Lantern. Nobody wants to see an all white super hero team. Superman and Batman and Wonder Woman all “have” to be white. But there is definite creative wiggle room for race when casting Green Lantern especially and possibly the Flash.

    • Grimcicle

How is John Stewart the “real” Green Lantern? Hal Jordan was Green Lantern of Section 2814 long before Stewart was. Besides, there’s no “real” Lantern at all, since there are hundreds of them. Hell, if they want more female heroes in the film, cast a woman as the League’s Green Lantern.

      • Spook

How about a black woman as Green Lantern? Both problems solved

    • Topher

Ya no one wants to see that I mean the avengers had iron…..hulk…..cap…..hawk…widow…thor…….wait they were all white. My bad, Guess ppl would rather have them stay true to the comics.

      • Rob

oh wait we forgot about Sam Jackson as Nick Fury…yeah they weren’t all white and John Stewart IS an african american Green Lantern in the comics, Justice League and Green Lantern animated series. But hey you know as long as it fits your narrow minded view why follow source material right?

I agree. Marvel had an idea and it paid off, in more than one way. It wasn\’t the only thing that made it a success. Whedon definitely knows how to make a successful movie. He managed to give a fairly balanced time allotment to all the characters which is not an easy thing to do with 6 characters. I can\’t say I was too heavily invested in any one character\’s arc, but at least even the minor characters like Widow and Hawkeye weren\’t just in the background fighting. I do hope they don\’t try bring in more characters in the next one. Having 6 ministories to tell along with the main one is kinda pushing it.

However, we already had some development of most of those characters stories in the other films, which is why I think it paid off. For example, we see how cocky and full of himself Stark is and then that is contrasted with the grown up boy scout that Cap is.

I want this to be good! And it’ll only, ONLY be good if they have a damn good script.

How do people not realize that JGL can’t play Batman, because he’s not Bruce Wayne.
Yeah, maybe he could play Batman for a while, until the real Batman came back. And then he’d be Nightwing. But seriously. He can’t play Batman.
On the other hand, James Caviezel could play him, though he’s a bit old. Or Jon Hamm. He’s a bit older too. But idk. They could make them younger i guess.

    • Andrew from Troy

Jim Caviezel is actually a great choice. But, they’d have to work out his schedule with Person of Interest, which would probably prevent this from happening.

  • MainFragger

I know it will never happen, because the studios would be too scared to do it..But I’d love to see them start fresh with all unkown actors. I just think if you can find the right unknowns to pull it off, it will be more impressive than some well known actor playing himself the way he has the last decade, but in a costume..

  • Luan-Vu Tu

I dont think they should put Batman in this movie. Especially fresh off the ending of the Dark Knight trilogy. This movie seems to be on the lighter side. Hard to imagine especially with Man of Steel coming out that you can take those characters in a lighter movie. The Dark Knight trilogies explored the darker side of Bruce Wayne and Batman. The Man of Steel is always doing the same. I can see Green Lantern, the Flash, Green Arrow, being introduced more to this film then the other major two headliners. If they can make this work, I’d be very VERY impressed.

as long as the names “ryan reynolds” or “John blake” are never part of the project… bring it.

I’ve had this idea for a while, especially after watching Dredd in theaters. Karl Urban must be Batman in Justice League 2014. He can pull off bad-ass, he looks intelligent, has the height (1.85m same as Henry Cavill!) and possibly potential for the build, and looks like a real Bruce Wayne. I was honestly disappointed with Christian Bale\’s interpretation of the character, maybe no fault of his own, but he never seemed intelligent enough through the trilogy, had the build but not the height, and his fighting was ridiculous in that constrictive suit. Lets not forget the voice…compare that with Urban in Dredd. Urban is over 40 though so training to be at the level of Batman we\’d all hope for with killer fighting skills might be a challenge. Obviously while wearing a mask, a stunt double could do the job. I just hope someone in a powerful position could see this…he has the chops.

    • Ray

      I mean, Justice League 2015

  • Dan

    Superman – Henry Cavill
Batman – Jim Caviezel, Michael Fassbender, Armie Hammer, Thomas Jane, Andrew Lincoln, Joe Manganiello, Karl Urban, or Sam Witwer.
Wonder Woman – Jaimie Alexander, Gemma Arterton, Gina Carano, Charlize Theron, or Olivia Wilde.
Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) – Ryan Reynolds. But if they don’t go with him, then ether Bradley Cooper, Logan Marshall-Green, Chris Pine, or Sam Worthington.
Green Lantern (John Stewart) – Michael Jai White
The Flash – Ryan Gosling or Ryan Phillippe.

  • Grimcicle

They should cast a woman in the role of Green Lantern. Perhaps the Lantern of Sector 2814 in this film could be Jade?

  • Doug

Martian Manhunter is my favorite, but I’m not surprised at his absence.

Definitely should be Ryan Reynolds as the Flash (yeah, not Green Lantern). With Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern. Not only does Nathan look more like the Green Lantern, but he has been voicing him in cartoons forever. Someone else mentioned Taylor Cole for wonder woman. I’d never heard of her so I looked her up and I couldn’t agree more now. I like Henry Cavill as Superman and I don’t want JGL as Batman, nor Christian Bale for that matter. Start fresh with Batman in this movie. Sorry but no one comes to mind that I can think of. I wouldn’t mind seeing Tom Wellington reprise his role as Superman either though…

And definitely should have MM and Aquaman.

  • Shawn

Just as Hulk added some needed humor to the Avengers, this movie needs Jim Carrey as Plastic Man for a small role…

  • cattyflash

Taylor Cole for Wonder Woman. Totally!

  • Red john

This sucks! with out Bale as batman this will suck. Also GJL is not fit to be batman.

  • YodaRocks

Gina Caranno as Wonder Woman or FO!!

  • Hrothgar

    @Merify

    1) JGL can play Batman at any point in time because Batman isn\’t real, hence any male actor will do. He could be Bruce Wayne just as much as Christian Bale was Bruce Wayne.
    2) Christian Bale isn\’t doing Batman anymore, so people need to come to terms with it and let it go.

As to the other comment (from a different poster) about \"people wanting them to be all white\", that is an ignorant comment to make and you (at most) speak for yourself. I really liked the animated JL having a black Green Lantern and I\’m not black. I also second the motion that we need more than just one female super hero. Not just in this movie, in all of them. I\’m all for a Black Widow movie. Batgirl.

  • terry

This movie ain’t happening. Once they figure out what the f*** it would cost to push a mostly corny a** group of super heros on the screen they will abandon ship.
Please some a rough draft of the script. LOL!

Amanda Latona is Wonder Woman! :D
