The Sundance Film Festival is always host to a number of excellent documentaries, and this year was no exception.  One of the more talked about docs was The Battered Bastards of Baseball, and while various studios are currently vying for the distribution rights, the adaptation rights have already been snatched up.  THR reports that Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has purchased narrative remake rights to the baseball documentary with the intention of producing via his Perfect Storm banner.  Directed by Chapman Way and Maclain Way, the doc tells the story of Bing Russell (father of Kurt Russell).  The elder Russell built the independent baseball team the Portland Mavericks from the ground up, eventually leading to confrontation with organized baseball.

After helming the last four Fast & Furious films, Lin is next set to direct the sequel to The Bourne Legacy for an August 2015 release date so this feature adaptation is a ways off.  That being said, Battered Bastards should make for an excellent feature when the filmmaker gets around to it.  If you missed it, read Matt’s review of the documentary from Sundance right here. [Update: THR has amended its story, clarifying that Lin is just producing the adaptation while Todd Field (Little Children) is in talks to write and direct.  Kurt Russell is also in negotiations to be involved with the project in some capacity.]
