Karl Urban to Reprise His Role as “Vakko” for RIDDICK

I was under the impression that the third Riddick film would try to put as much distance between it and The Chronicles of Riddick as possible.  Whenever Vin Diesel brings up the new sequel, he always mentions Pitch Black and not the PG-13 flop that had him and director David Twohy scrapping to get an R-rated third installment off the ground.  But Bloody-Disgusting reports that Karl Urban, who played the disgraced “Lord Vakko” in Chronicles, will be returning for the third movie.  While we’ve been calling the upcoming film “Riddick” and all the concept art is labeled “Riddick“, BD refers to the movie with its older title, The Chronicles of Riddick: Dead Man Stalking, so maybe that’s being used again? (I hope not.  Unless you’re a Naked Gun movie, your title should not be a play on words).

There’s no word yet on how Vakko will factor into the plot but you can hit the jump for the official synopsis.  Urban will next be seen playing the title character in the new adaptation of Judge Dredd, Dredd.

Here’s the official synopsis for Riddick:

Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before. Soon bounty hunters from throughout the galaxy descend on Riddick only to find themselves pawns in his greater scheme for revenge. With his enemies right where he wants them, Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.

It seems pretty apparent to me what Vakko’s role in this is. “Left behind by his own kind.” Since the Furion’s (god, what a horrible retcon) are all dead, I’m assuming the “own kind” is the Necromongers. Afterall, Riddick became the emperor of the Necromongers, so I guess they are his “kind” now. Vakko will betray him and abandon him on the planet.

No, Riddicks ‘own kind’ is not the necromongers, so I think it’s clear that Vakko will stage a coup of some kind. And Riddick by some twist of fate, will get some necromonger powers.

Although the Furians are practically extinct, they are a species of humans who due to living on Furya for who knows how long, have evolved to be physically and mentally superior to normal humans.

So saving the planet itself is incredibly important as it’s the real reason why Riddick is the way he is.

Karl Urban- HE IS THE LAW! Never mind a new Riddick movie, Urban is going to kick unholy amounts of bottom in ‘Dredd’…

Anyone here who has ever heard the story by why this movie’s script was average (at best) knows it was the studios fault. The director/writer of the movie wanted Riddick to be rated R like the previous movie, but the studio wanted a PG-13 franchise.

If you ever watch the director’s cut of Chronicles of Riddick and compare it to the piece of shit that was released in the movies you see it is a big difference.

Overall, I am hoping this will kick ass. This franchise still has promise and potential it just needs a kick ass script. Also, War Urban!!!!

“Riddick unleashes a vicious attack of vengeance before returning to his home planet of Furya to save it from destruction.”

Wait, wait, wait. Wasn’t Riddick the last Furyan? This already doesn’t make sense.

I hope Dredd will enable Karl Urban to begin his ascension to the A-list and perhaps even get shared top billing with Vin Diesel for the new Riddick film.

I just cant wait for this flick. I find the Riddick series and Riddick character immensely riverting. And Vin Diesel plays him oh so awesomely!

Karl Urban returning is a great way to show continuity in Riddick 3.

I hope Riddick 3 is better than the second one and is good as the first one now that the movie is R rated.

Let’s hope this works out well.

Whatchoo talking bout, Willis?!! Chronicles of Riddick is badass. One of the most ambitious sci fi films of the past decade. Sorry you didn’t get it. You’re missing out. I’m excited to see Karl Urban back!

I thought Chronicles was way better than Pitch Black … Pitch Black was just boring with a very weak overused storyline

Yeah that whole “planet where it’s dark for extended periods of time and crazy raptor birds come out of the ground and the antihero who sees in the dark saves some people even though he really doesn’t want to” storyline is so cliche.

Looking forward to this. Sounds like they are taking the good parts of the 2nd film (merc team hunting him) and mixing it with the vastly superior first film.

Spoiler: Vaako will be the ally of Riddick. He will help him flee the Gorks, a professional assassins hired by Dame Vaako. Unfortunately, the ship was trapped in an electronic web. but he will get out of the ship to fall on the planet Ax51B.

Riddick is The One in another Form.. He’s becoming a better man than he was in the first film. Remember he said he believed in God but he absolutely hated him, then he wound up fighting Satan in the sequel.. That’s why it’s important to stick to how he defeats the Necro’s The new monsters.. Riddick is The Devil killer like Kolshack.
