Kate Beckinsale and Nick Nolte are set to star in the drama The Trials of Cate McCallDeadline reports that Sunrise Pictures and Pitbull Pictures are teaming up to produce the film, with Karen Moncrieff set to direct from a script that she wrote.  Beckinsale stars as “a former hotshot prosecutor who threw her career away when she became an addict. Hoping to regain credibility and win custody of her estranged daughter, the lawyer takes on the appeal of a wrongly convicted murderess. She battles crooked cops, a broken system, and her own demons.”  James Cromwell is also set to star in a supporting role.

Beckinsale has been starring in more action-oriented fare as of late with turns in Contraband and Underworld: Awakening, so this drama should make for a nice change of pace.  The actress will next be seen later this year opposite Colin Farrell and Jessica Biel in the remake of Total Recall.  Nolte stars in the upcoming crime pic Gangster Squad.
