Yesterday we brought you the first image of Chris Pine as a young Jack Ryan in Kenneth Branagh’s Jack Ryan. Now, Paramount Pictures has given us the first look at Kevin Costner playing a legendary CIA field agent in the film. Jack Ryan puts Pine in the shoes of the famous Tom Clancy character that has previously been portrayed onscreen by Alec Baldwin (The Hunt for Red October), Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger), and Ben Affleck (The Sum of All Fears). This prequel finds Pine’s ex-Marine Jack Ryan working as a Moscow-based financial analyst who uncovers a plot by his employer to finance a terrorist attack designed to collapse the U.S. economy. Branagh not only directs, but stars as the villain with Keira Knightley also onboard as the female lead. Jack Ryan, currently shooting in downtown Manhattan, opens Christmas Day, 2013. Hit the jump to see the first look at Costner.

I wonder why it will take them a year and a half to get this movie into theaters.
Nothing wrong with taking your time to shine and polish your product
The best movies involve a great deal of editing and improvement on the final product. You can tell when editing has been rushed and the final product is not as smooth.
Kenneth Branagh has said filming will wrap just before Christmas, so it gives them plenty of time to get the final cut honed and refined – including the inevitable reshoots – as well as getting the no-doubt-extensive visual effects right, studios have learnt from the whole ‘Green Lantern’ post-production fiasco and are now giving themselves more time in the post–production phase, and rightly so…
A lot also goes into release dates beyond just when the film will be ready.
I had the opportunity to visit the set while filming in Liverpool, looked like a lot of work went into making my home town look like Russia, ended up with 300+ photos which was prity sweet
