With production on Marvel’s next movie Thor set to begin later this month, tons of work is going on behind the scenes right now.  Not only are the actors preparing for the fight scenes, they’re also trying on the costumes to see what works and what changes have to be made.  After getting to see one of the tests, Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Studios) wrote about his reaction.  Hit the jump to read it:

To be honest the thing that I’m most excited about right now though, is the screen test we just finished for “Thor.” We’ve done some costume tests and watching the Asgardians walk onto the sound stage takes me back to that first time I saw the X-Men on the set all together in Toronto. Only it was unlike anything we’ve ever put on film before! It’s great to be starting the next decade in such an exciting way just as we did last decade. We’re really redefining the comic book genre and what a Marvel movie can be. It’s going to be great.

Needless to say, expect plenty of Thor updates over the next few months.  Like most of you, this is a film I cannot wait to see.

Thor stars Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Jaimie Alexander (Sif), Ray Stevenson (Volstagg), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Colm Feore, Renee Russo (Frigga), Kat Dennings and Stellan Skarsgård.

Feige’s comments are from the Marvel website via splashpage.

agreed on the x men films and bryen singer. they were good for the time, but fans want films that stick close to the cannon. hopefully chris nolan will take note of that for the next batman film too, because in about 5 years people will have problems w/ him killing off harvey, harvey and bruce not being old friends, and rachel i'm the worst character in cinematic history dawes.

“Give the fans what they want, not what they ask for.” – Mark Waid, a guy who knew what he was talking about.

The concept of the comic book fan community driving what goes onscreen is outdated, and long proven to be a bad idea. BATMAN sticks more to Batman continuity than BATMAN RETURNS, but the latter was a much more rewarding film, while the original feels very, very stale these days.

And I know it's cool to hate on Bryan Singer now, but he made the most honest, refreshing feature-length Superman film to date, and I admire that sort of earnestness, even if the fan community is too busy whining about him not punching things (honestly…). “Why direct a marvel film and a DC film”? I don't know, why work for Warner Brothers and Paramount? If they have the scripts you want to work on, go to them.

As for Chris Nolan, he made the right decision for HIS movie. In five years, his take on Batman might not even exist anymore (in ten years, it almost certainly won't), and everyone will have grown weary of Ledger's Joker and somebody else can do Harvey Dent. It's the truly sad cycle the fanboy community takes.

To stay to the actual topic, man do I feel good about where THOR is heading.

Positive comments from the Prez @ Marvel. I am a fan of the Thor franchise and I am hoping that this movie has as much an impact on the big screen as Iron Man did.

Quick FYI: X-Men was a decent series at the time but it’s time for a revamp without Bryan Singer. No disrespect but with him as the helm for both X-Men and Superman(why direct a marvel film and a DC film……*shrugs*), they went from blockbusters to lackluster. Here’s a tip……go with what the fans know, like and want.

What I like the most is that Feige knows when a decade actually starts! Good for him :)
