Warner Bros has released the first set of images from director Rawson Marshall Thurber's (We're the Millers, Dodgeball) upcoming action comedy Central Intelligence. The film stars Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart as a mismatched pair of pair of former high school class mates who reunite years later only to find their lives have taken completely unexpected paths.
Johnson plays Bob, a former overweight nerd who spent his high school years being bullied before he "blossomed physically" into hulking "The Rock" stature and became a deadly CIA operative. When Bob attends his 20 year high school reunion he runs in to Calvin (Hart), one time cool guy and king of the campus who grew up to become a straight-laced accountant. When Bob is framed for a crime he didn't commit, he recruits Calvin to help him clear his name and stop a plot to sell military secrets. From there the two get caught up in all kinds of antics that I assume involve bickering and stature jokes.
Central Intelligence also stars Aaron Paul, Amy Ryan, Danielle Nicollet, Ryan Hansen, and Slaine, and is set to arrive in theaters June 17, 2016. Check out the first look images below (via USAToday)
Johnson is a force in the action blockbuster world with a huge cult of personality so it makes a lot of sense to team him up with one of the reigning kings box office in the comedy world, and if the film lives up to the promise of that star power, Warner Bros. could have an absolute juggernaut on its hands.
Johson previously introduced the world to Bob on instagram with the following description.
He's a grown man who's extremely childlike and views the world thru exuberant and enthusiastic teenage eyes... Loves to wear his favorite Public Enemy shirt, cargo pants and sneakers to work.. and rocks a fanny pack which holds his Bruce Lee quotes and a condom (he's always prepared). The "added twist" is Bob has an extremely high IQ and is one of the most lethal men on the planet as a C.I.A. contract killer. Oh the most important character trait.. He hates bullies.
