As we head into the final stretch of 2012, things aren’t slowing down in the slightest:  gallery shows are still coming fast and furious (our friends at Ltd Art Gallery just opened their latest show, and another open next week via our friends at Bottleneck Gallery), Mondo’s still churning out new stuff (an entire line of Uni Monsters prints designed by Jay Shaw was released earlier this week), and—meanwhile, closer to homebase—we’ve had more artists and galleries contacting us about doing giveaways through Limited Paper than ever before.  Indeed, if anything might be said about the current state of affairs in Poster World, it’s that things are only getting crazier.

Today, we’ve got news on a new Transformers piece from Kevin Tong, show you where you can still purchase one of Craig Drake’s The Hunger posters, and—last but not least—announce our latest giveaway (and offering clues on next week’s).  Ready to digest all that?  It’s all after the break in today’s super-sized Limited Paper, folks.

Sweet baby Jesus in a sidecar with chocolate jimmies and a lobster bib, things are happening all over in Poster World: our friends at Ltd Art Gallery just opened up Pop 2!  The Art of Pop Culture Returns, and—by all accounts—the show’s Thursday opening (which doubled as the first anniversary for the Ltd Art guys) was a massive success;  across the country in waterlogged NYC, the folks at Bottleneck Gallery have overcome a seriously devastating couple of weeks to put the finishing touches on their latest show, The Gang’s All Here (opening November 16th, preview below);  Acid-Free Gallery just announced a brand-new Transformers print from Kevin “Kevin Dong” Tong;  and here at Limited Paper HQ, we’ve got more artists and galleries offering up posters for giveaways than we know what to do with (for starters, we’re announcing the latest one below).  It is truly a great and bank-account destroying time to be a collector.  Let’s take a look at what’s been going on in a little great detail.

BOTTLENECK GALLERY’S “THE GANG’S ALL HERE” OPENS NEXT FRIDAY:  PREVIEW (OF A PREVIEW)

We’re going to be running a supersized preview of images from Bottleneck Gallery’s The Gang’s All Here show-- which opens next Friday (Nov. 16th)—early next week.  But seeing as how I’m sitting on top of a pile of amazing photos, I convinced the Bottleneck guys to let me share a few preview-of-the-preview images with you.  Specific details will have to follow later, but for now, enjoy this trio of photos, all of which are pieces that will be available at Bottleneck Gallery next Friday (and shortly thereafter, online).  Let’s start with Fernando Reza’s Attack The Block

…and here’s what appears to be a Jay Shaw original based on A Clockwork Orange

…and, finally, here’s Ian Glaubinger’s Super Troopers…

All of these are looking pretty snazzy, and we’ll have a ton of other images (including two great new pieces from Laurent Durieux and Godmachine) for you early next week.  In the meantime, what do you guys think of these three?  Never would’ve occurred to me before seeing this piece, but Glaubinger’s style was perfect for Troopers, right?  We need more Broken Lizard-themed artwork, people.

ACID-FREE GALLERY AND KEVIN TONG GUARANTEE YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN OPTIMUS PRIME

Awhile back, Mondo released a timed-edition for Olly MossThe Dark Knight Rises print, and the results were nothing short of pants-shittingly crazy:  they sold roughly 10k copies of that print, and while many collectors were lukewarm on the idea of a timed/open edition of an Olly Moss print, there were three times as many fans who were just happy to have finally been able to score on a Mondo drop.  Similarly, the Acid-Free Gallery guys have just announced that Kevin Tong’s latest—an Optimus Prime poster—will soon be available, and we’re guessing that Transformers fans will be happy to have zero chance of missing out on it:

  • Optimus Prime by Kevin Tong
  • 16x24”
  • $40 timed/open edition (sales start Nov. 16th at 12:30PM, EST)

But the similarities don’t stop there, folks:  just as we saw with Mondo and Olly Moss’ Dark Knight Rises poster, Tong’s Optimus Prime will also be made available in a 24x36” format, in an edition that’s limited to just 100 copies.  Looks pretty much exactly like the smaller edition, but obviously the size is the big difference here.

  • Optimus Prime by Kevin Tong
  • 24x36”
  • Metallic Inks!
  • $75 full-size limited edition (available at a random time on 11/16)

But, wait, there’s more!  A third version of the poster will also be made available, and—for those of you that are collectors of the rarest items in Poster World—we’re guessing this edition will be the most sought-after of the bunch:

  • Optimus Prime by Kevin Tong
  • 24x36”
  • Glow-in-The-Dark and Metallic Inks!
  • $100 full-size variant edition (available at a random time on 11/16)
Kevin-Tong-Optimus-Prime-variant

What?  You thought that three different versions of this poster—one of which has Glow-in-The-Dark and metallic inks burned into its surface—was going to be the end of this discussion?!  Pish-posh:  Acid-Free Gallery has even more tricks up their sleeve.  Let’s just let them tell you what they’re doing on this next part:

3 special prize winning tubes will ship with a “Prize Card” to win a free 24x36” edition of Optimus Prime by Kevin Tong.  One winner will get the 24x36” variant edition, and two winners will get the regular 24x36” edition.  This card will only be in 3 of the 16x24” Optimus Prime print tubes.

If you’re one of the lucky buyers who ends up with one of these “Prize Cards” (Golden Tickets?), you’ll need to contact info@acidfreegallery.com to collect your prize (they’re asking the winners to take a photo of their “Prize Card”, so be careful not to share any photos if you win lest your kickass prize be jacked right out from under you by some ne’er-do-well collector without morals).  Head on over to this page for more details on the sale, and prepare to spend next Friday—when all three editions of this poster will be up for grabs—eagerly awaiting the arrival of this badass poster (these badass posters?).

LIMITED PAPER’S LATEST POSTER CONTEST:  DESIGN A LIMITED PAPER LOGO, WIN DAVID BOWIE

Earlier in the week, we previewed Ltd Art Gallery’s Pop 2! The Art of Pop Culture Returns.  Our favorite print from that show had to be Craig Drake’s The Hunger poster, which was produced in a severely limited quantity of just 83 prints (to commemorate the year that Tony Scott film was released):  the first 33 copies were variant editions that feature red metallic inks, while the remaining 50 are non-metallic reg’s.  Here, check it out:

Pretty sweet, right?  Well, the variant editions of the print have long since sold out, but the Ltd Art Gallery was gracious enough to offer up their very last copy of that variant to a yet-to-be-determined Limited Paper reader.  We’ve been teasing our “Design a Limited Paper Logo” contest for a couple weeks now, and this is it:  take a few minutes out of your day to design a Limited Paper logo, and you might win a variant edition of Craig Drake’s The Hunger poster.

The rules?  There are precious few of them.  All you need to do is craft a logo for Limited Paper (see the examples below, which were turned in by readers during our last contest) and send it to LimitedPaper@Gmail.com with the subject line “I DESIGNED A LIMITED PAPER LOGO”.  Between now and next Friday (November 16th), we’ll be taking submissions, and next weekend myself and two guest judges (who we’ll announce sometime next week;  still confirming the participation of said judges) will decide which one we like the best.  The winner will have a variant edition of Craig Drake’s The Hunger sent to them directly from Ltd Art Gallery.  Simple as that.

And for the record:  there’s still a ton of prints from Ltd Art Gallery’s latest show available for purchase right this minute over at their website site, including the regular edition of Drake’s Hunger poster.  If you weren’t in Seattle on Thursday or don’t feel like ya have what it takes to win our latest contest, head on over to that link and take a look at their wares:  if you don’t see at least one print in there that blows your skirt up, you may already have bad taste in artwork.

That’s about all for now, folks!  We’ll have more news for you early next week, including a more in-depth look at Bottleneck Gallery’s The Gang’s All Here…as well as yet another giveaway.  As always, if you’re an artist or gallery with artwork you’d like to see featured on Limited Paper (or if you’re just some lucky bastard who happened to overhear a bit of poster-related gossip while standing in the bushes outside Martin Ansin’s house) we wanna hear from you!  Email Limited Paper directly at LimitedPaper@gmail.com, and be sure that you’re following us on Twitter via @LimitedPaper for ongoing commentary, news updates, giveaways, and more!
