First Red-Band Trailer for KICK-ASS 2 Starring Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Jim Carrey

     March 13, 2013

Universal has released the first red-band trailer for director Jeff Wadlow‘s sequel Kick-Ass 2.  The trailer opens with a fight/dialogue scene between Aaron Johnson‘s Kick-Ass and Chloe Moretz‘s Hit Girl that brings us right back into the Kick-Ass world, and it sure does feel good to be back.  The plot appears to revolve around the preparations for a showdown between Kick-Ass/Hit Girl and Christopher Mintz-Plasse‘s newly minted “The Motherfucker,” as both sides are building up their own armies of heroes/villains.  Mintz-Plasse looks to have gone delectably full-evil in the follow-up, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how his character progresses throughout the film.  The CGI is pretty iffy in places, but the fight scenes and performances look great, with Jim Carrey essentially unrecognizable as Colonel Stars and Stripes.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Clark DukeDonald FaisonJohn Leguizamo, and Olga Kurkulina.  Kick-Ass 2 opens on August 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Kick-Ass 2:

Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as The Mother F%&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation. When we last saw junior assassin Hit Girl and young vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first superhero team with Mindy.

Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire—leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school mean girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes. Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil league and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.

Diggin the trailer a lot , carrey looks like hes finally having some fun . I havnt read the book , does it stay true to the source by the looks of it ??

    • RashHunt

I read it over the summer, looks like it keeps pretty close tabs. Don’t want to spoil anything but everything from the fan fight to the dog attacking the man’s crotch comes from directly from the pages.

Like the first movie, it cannot stay true to the book. The book is waaay too dark. There is like, gang rape and shit in the book. But it does look like they are using whatever they can.

    ****Cemetery sequence
****It looks like the final battle will not take place in the city but in a warehouse to save money. Good choice to save the budget, but lets hope they rewrote it well.

    • Jones

I noticed too. But if i remember correctly, i think i remember them saying, that they were gonna fight in Times Square, and set pictures too. But from the trailer it looks like a dumb ware house.

  • sense 11

That just gave an unlimited smile, that looks fucking awesome :))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

here’s hoping the green screen composite gets better during the car chase scene

Wow, actually looks pretty good. I figured a Vaughn-less Kick-Ass would suck, but I may be proven wrong yet. Carrey’s playing a bit against type and not going totally over-the-top with it, which is nice for a change. The part where she starts shooting from the top of the van was HILARIOUS. Also, note the Dredd soundtrack being used in the trailer. Any Dredd exposure is good exposure.

From the trailer it doesn’t look like there’s gonna be a big fight in Times Square. It’s in a ware house instead. sucks…

I love how Kick-Ass 2 has two songs from Sleigh Bells in the trailer, “Infinity Guitars” and “Crush” were also great choices since it was one song from their first album and one from their second. I loved the first movie, but it is kinda weird to see the girl being almost grown up now…and Jim Carrey I assume will either be awesome or terrible, with almost zero chance for it being middle ground. Here’s hoping he’s great.
