First up from Deadline comes news that Need for Speed has landed a few new racers. In addition to (Mes)Cudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek and Harrison Gilbertson have also joined the cast. Paul stars as Tobey Marshall, a man who races from New York to L.A., driven by revenge. Mescudi will play Marshall’s best friend and may even contribute to the film’s soundtrack, as he did for DreamWorks’ Fright Night as well as for The Hunger Games.
Also via Deadline is word of Lewis’ return to the screen in Max Rose. The drama centers on a jazz pianist who is attempting to recover from the loss of his wife of over fifty years. Complicating his heartache is the discovery of something that indicates their entire marriage was a lie. In an effort to explore his past, the man comes into contact with a number of characters from a forgotten era. Max Rose also stars Claire Bloom, Kevin Pollak, Kerry Bishe and Mort Sahl. The picture begins shooting in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
Finally, from THR comes the casting addition of Campbell to 10 Things I Hate About Life. The picture centers on Wood and McDonnell’s characters, a young woman and man who accidentally meet when they choose the same location from which to jump to their deaths. Complicating their strange romance is the ex-girlfriend of the man, who returns to his life as his band is on the cusp of signing a record deal. Campbell will star as the young man’s father, a successful lawyer who, of course, disapproves of his son’s chosen profession. The indie is shooting in L.A.
