Some major veteran casting announcements to announce today:
- Kim Basinger (L.A. Confidential) will join the Grudge Match between Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro in the Peter Segal-directed picture.
- Thomas Jane (The Punisher), Nick Nolte (Warrior) and Jeremy Irons (Die Hard: With a Vengeance) have joined the indie Western thriller, A Magnificent Death, to be directed by Jane.

Variety reports that Basinger will join Grudge Match as the woman caught between the disgruntled ex-fighters. Penned by Tim Kelleher with a recent re-write by Doug Ellin (Entourage), Grudge Match centers on two former fighters (Stallone and De Niro) who step into the ring one last time to settle an old score. Kevin Hart (The 40 Year Old Virgin) also stars as the fight promoter. Basinger is currently filming Third Person for director Paul Haggis and will next be seen in the indie drama One Square Mile opposite Richard Jenkins.
Variety also reports that the trio of Jane, Nolte and Irons will ride in A Magnificent Death, an indie Western thriller directed by Jane. Co-written by Jane and Jose Prendes (Hansel & Gretel) , A Magnificent Death follows “one man’s journey for redemption in the ruthless West — where an ex-soldier is relentlessly tracked down for the murder and rape of a well-to-do woman. He must face mercenaries, tribal warriors, and women of sin to clear his name and uncover the true story behind the manhunt.”
Jane showed a brief concept video of the film, then known as A Magnificent Death from a Shattered Hand during Comic-Con earlier this year. Jane also commented on the picture, saying:
“My intention is for the movie to utilize themes that characterize the classic Western films – their exploration of rugged individualism versus civic duty, of personal valor versus the violence of pre-civil worlds – to create a film that works on the level of rousing entertainment.”
Production is expected to start in the spring in Utah.
