We’ve had quite a few posts with the words “knight”, “day”, and “trailer” in the headline (“one, two, three, four, tell me that you love me more”), but I think such gluttony is justified given the upward trend for each new clip. Knight stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz as “a fugitive couple (on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem.” James Mangold (Walk the Line) directs; the cast also includes Peter Sarsgaard (An Education), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), Maggie Grace (Taken), and Marc Blucas (Buffy the Vampire Slayer).
It’s hard to parse out what footage is brand new to our eyes, but altogether the new trailer is doing its job. Over the past several months, Knight and Day has slowly transformed from “potentially silly” to “solid choice” when it comes out on July 2, 2010.
Here’s the official synopsis:
An action-comedy centered on a fugitive couple (Cruise and Diaz) on a glamorous and sometimes deadly adventure where nothing and no one – even themselves – are what they seem. Amid shifting alliances and unexpected betrayals, they race across the globe, with their survival ultimately hinging on the battle of truth vs. trust.

what about this makes it a solid choice? perhaps if it had come out around 1989. are there any two stars more unwelcome at the multiplex than cruise and diaz? everything about this looks and sounds utterly fatiguing. if i'm going to punish myself with an unfunny romantic spy movie, at least get jolie and pitt so there is something pretty on the screen.
the one thing i'll say – sarsgaard is really coming into his own. he has always been great, but he is getting into that sweet spot where he is establishing effortless gravitas. if he has to waste his time on junk like this (reminds of cruise dragging p s hoffman and billy crudup into the last mission impossible) let him get some real marquee projects. my strong advice – if they have to make another batman, get sarsgaard to play riddler and p s hoffman as penguin. this would be genius casting, so i'll say it again – SARSGAARD FOR RIDDLER, PS HOFFMAN FOR PENGUIN.
I had recenly watched the trailer of KNIGHT AND DAY, and it is really amazing. I am very bug fan of Tom Cruise and he looks amazing in this gorgeous movie. Love to watch this movie as soon as possible. Great trailer.
I'm going to assume you didn't even bother watching the trailer JG (*facepalm)…
To answer your question tho, what is making Knight and Day look more and more 'solid' with every passing trailer is the seemingly unintentional but justified comparisons to the ill-fated and cheesy “Killers” coming out this Friday. Go back and take a gander at one of their weak and unfunny trailers, and notice how painful it is to watch Ashton Kutcher attempt “Action Hero”, then come back and watch the trailer above again, and you'll realize just how good Cruise really is at this genre, having pretty much built his career on it.
No matter how 'washed up' or 'past his prime' you seem to imagine Mr Tom Cruise to be, he has never looked better or even more 'youthful', thanks in some part to the epic action scenes each new trailer offers, and maybe as well thanks in large part to Knight and Day's release date alongside THE most atrociously washed up movie and 'past their prime' cast of the year, 'Grown Ups'.
I liked the trailer. Knight and Day seems like a better spy movie than The Killers. I am not a huge Cruise or Diaz fan but they seemed to have good chemistry. I will go see it if I have the time.
Tom Cruise playing a super spy.Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz team up for a globetrotting comedy spy thriller. It is nice movie.

Stop being haters Cameron Diaz is a still a little hot tamale and Tom Cruise is timeless and both are great actors. I loved the movie and young actors can certainly learn a thing or two from these two magnificent “past their prime” actors. Eat your heart out.
