Joe Lynch’s KNIGHTS OF BADASSDOM Acquired for Distribution by eOne, but Is It Lynch’s Cut?

     July 25, 2013

Two years ago, Wrong Turn 2 director Joe Lynch got to show off his horror comedy Knights of Badassdom in Hall H at Comic-Con.  The film follows a group of LARPers (Live-Action Role Players) who head out into the woods, end up doing a real spell, and accidentally summon a blood-thirsty demon.  As the demon starts picking off LARPers, three friends (played by Ryan Kwanten, Steve Zahn, and Peter Dinklage) have to find a way to defeat the demon.  The film also starred Summer Glau and Danny Pudi.  The trailer looked hilarious, but then all news on the movie went quiet.  It turns out, shady dealings from behind the scenes had taken the film away from Lynch, and that Wade Bradley, the owner of the production company IndieVest, had “made his own 70 minute cut.”  Lynch set up a website explaining the whole ordeal, but that site has now been taken down.  Entertainment One (eOne) has now picked up the feature for theatrical and VOD distribution, but when reached for comment on Twitter about the deal, Lynch only responded “Till I get a call… #NMC”.  I’m assuming “NMC” means “Not My Cut”. I’m still interested in seeing the finished version, but it’s a depressing end for what looked like a promising feature.

Hit the jump for the press release and the Comic-Con trailer.  Knights of Badassdom currently has no release date, but it will be released day-and-date in theaters and on VOD.

Man, just the chance to see Dinklage play a farcical imitation of Tyrion will make watching this worth it, crappy cut or not.

Hard to sort out what’s really going on isn’t it? The website is gone!
Is it Joe’s film? No – Bradley took him and Burton off the project very early on, then not sure but he probably had to settle with both under the terms of their contracts. Who knows – nothing about this movie has gone right from day one, and it’s hard to point the finger at Burton, Wall, Lynch – when Bradley decided to step in and call the shots. A guy with a unknown success record at anything, especially films.
EOne bought North American distribution rights only – wonder where the $$ went – to finish the film? It wasn’t done in March – it’s clear Bradley’s version of the film is what everyone will see based on what his behavior has been.
That’s a shame – look to Peter and the other members of the cast. Not seeing alot of enthusiasm on their part about the release – in fact, nothing from anyone.
What about the Knghts of Badassdom investors? Bradley was sanctioned July 23 by FINRA for NASD and FINRA violations connected with raising money for the movie.
Media Society investors beware …… you’re next.
