Laurence Fishburne and Kevin Zegers are in final negotiations to star in the sci-fi thriller The Colony. I think you’ll like the logline: “A group of underground survivors after the next Ice Age fending off an invasion of feral cannibals.” God gifted Fishburne that beautiful baritone voice to lend gravity to exactly this type of movie. Jeff Renfroe will direct from a script he co-wrote with Patrick Tarr, Pascal Trottier and Svet Rouskov. Paul Barkin, Colin Brunton, Matthew Cervi, Pierre Even and Marie-Claude Poulin are producing. THR hears shooting on the $16 million independent production begins in Toronto next week.
Hit the jump for details on Gillian Jacobs‘ role in the Burt Wonderstone.
Director Don Scardino (30 Rock) has rounded up an impressive cast for Burt Wonderstone: Steve Carell, Jim Carrey, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, Brad Garrett, and James Gandolfini among others. According to THR, you can add Community star Gillian Jacobs to the list. The story centers on a Vegas magician (Carell) who is upstaged by a hipper illusionist (Carrey) that draws a crowd with a more dangerous show. Shooting is underway in Las Vegas. We have seen quite a few photos from the set, and result looks to be as kooky and colorful as you could hope for from a comedy about Vegas magicians.
Jacobs plays a woman who hooks up with Carell after meeting at one of his shows. This is a quick reunion for the pair, who recently filmed Seeking a Friend for the End of the World together. Seeking a Friend opens on June 22.

I hope “independent” refers to outside funding, rather than a studio, because $16 million seems like enough for a survival horror film like this. The project sounds interesting though and Fishburne is the man, so I’d see it.
