Recently we brought you the FilmNation announcement of Terrence Malick’s film, Lawless, starring Ryan Gosling (Drive) and Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Since Christian Bale was recently seen shooting with Malick in Austin, we thought we’d bring you some images of the other stars. The Bale photos show the star decked out in all black and the method actor seems to be in character. The Gosling pics seem to just show the young star milling about, but anything from a Malick set is worth checking out. Hit the jump to see the photos.
The Playlist reported on the set photos of Lawless from Austin, TX’s “Fun Fun Fest”, which kicked off today. The photos are gathered conveniently in a Tumblr gallery entitled “RyanGoslingatFunFunFest”. On closer inspection, Gosling may be donning a similar attire to Bale. The Playlist suggests this may be a younger/older version of the same character played by the two actors, but my money’s on the two principals portraying some sort of rebellious (motorcycle?) gang members. Mara doesn’t look quite as severe as she does in her The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo get-up, but she also might not be in costume as the project is still in pre-production.

gone are the days also when directors are called a “Malick” if they take too long to make a movie. PTA just got substituted for as an adjective.
it’s nice Gosling and Mara are working together, and IN A MALICK film! nice to see talented people getting together. Gosling is one of the best today and Mara may enter the likes of Carey Mulligan as one of the best actress today if she knocks the Dragon Tattoo role out of the park.

LOL! They already had their brains melted by Drive! I thought Drive was very similar to Malick’s Days of Heaven in the creation of a visceral experience through cinematography and score, they are going to lose their sh*t to a true Malick film! Keep em comin Ryan, love that you are pissin off your shallow audiences who only like ya for a pretty-boy!

Gosling is still filming Gangster Squad. This is all pre-production, which is why Mara is still sporting her dragon tattoo haircut, its just prep for the final shooting.
