LeBron James Partners with Warner Bros.; Is SPACE JAM 2 on the Way?

     July 22, 2015

lebron-james-space-jam-2LeBron James recently made his big-screen debut in Judd Apatow’s comedy, Trainwreck. In Perri’s review, she called him “surprisingly charismatic and charming” and I’ve seen similar sentiments echoing across the Internet. So it’s not much of a surprise to learn that James has made a deal with Warner Bros. Entertainment in order to produce original film, TV, and digital content.

As Variety reports, James’ Spring Hill Entertainment has partnered with WB, which was announced along with the following statement from Warners chairman and CEO, Kevin Tsujihara:

“LeBron James has one of the most powerful, well-known brands in the world and we are excited to be in business with him and his partner, Maverick Carter, and SpringHill Entertainment,” Tsujihara said. “The combination of LeBron’s global media presence and Warner Bros.’ unmatched production and distribution expertise is a big win for fans everywhere.”

While no specific projects were discussed, there’s one big one that’s probably at the forefront of the minds of those of you who are old enough to remember an animated movie that featured NBA star Michael Jordan. “ProStars movie!” one of you just screamed. No, I’m talking, of course, about Space Jam.

We were burned once before when a rumor of James taking the lead in a Space Jam reboot began making its rounds, but now that James is officially with the studio that produced the original animation/live-action sports comedy mash-up, the idea certainly seems feasible at least. The closest we’ve gotten to a reboot so far was when Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan participated in a live-read of the Space Jam script.

So, to reiterate, there’s no official word on a Space Jam project at this point, but James continues to tease fans with his business dealings. Would you be up for the movie if it ever actually happened? Let us know in the comments below.
