The filmmaker is already involved with a TV adaptation of The Valley of the Dolls at NBC, but director Lee Daniels is playing around with the small screen even more. Deadline has word that Daniels is working with Temple Grandin writer W. Merritt Johnson for a new drama at Showtime that will focus on the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Transsexual) subculture. Daniels is attached to direct the pilot for the potential series which is set in New York City and centers on the disenfranchised multicultural transgender youth of the Ball subculture. The culture has changed over the decades, but the underground society is said to consist of New York City’s disadvantaged black, Latino, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual communities who come together to compete for trophies and prizes, almost like a set of fraternities. Showtime's no stranger to the lives of some of these communities with shows like The L Word and Queer as Folk in their past, so this definitely seems right up their alley. And with an Academy Award nominated director and Emmy nominated writer on board, it should be an interesting series.Details on a new comedy pilot from Jonah Hill and comedian Hannibal Buress after the jump.Jonah Hill is hoping to make waves on Fox later this month with the animated comedy series Allen Gregory for which he provides the lead character's voice and also acts as executive producer. Well, the collaboration with the network must be strong as Deadline brings word that Fox has picked up a new comedy project from Hill and comedian Hannibal Buress. The concept of the show and whether or not it will be a single-camera or multi-camera series hasn't yet been determined, so I guess the comedy power of Hill and Buress together must be impressive enough by itself to warrant a purchase like this. Hill couldn't be more pleased about their collaboration saying, "From the first time I saw Hannibal perform, I started banging down the door to be the person to help guide his unique voice and material to television. I feel lucky he chose me and my bosses at Fox.” If you need to be convinced as to Buress' talents in the comedy department, check out this appearance on Late Night with David Letterman from earlier this year:
