New LEFT BEHIND Trailer: Nicolas Cage Facing the Rapture Looks Surprisingly Not Terrible

When a new Left Behind adaptation was announced, it sounded odd considering that the original film adaptation mainly appealed to a Christian audience, which makes sense since they deal with the Rapture.  Once Nicolas Cage signed on, it sounded like his direct-to-VOD that doesn’t really challenge the talented actor.  Then the first trailer was okay, but looked more like a Lifetime Original than a real movie (it wasn’t helped by the badly photoshopped poster).  But now a new Left Behind trailer has gone online, and the film looks legit.  In fact, it kind of reminds me of The Leftovers except there are emotions other than grief.  Or the movie could turn out to be This Is the End without the intentional comedy.  Either way, I’m intrigued.

Hit the jump to check out the new Left Behind trailer.  The film opens October 3rd, and also stars Chad Michael Murray, Lea Thompson, Jordin Sparks, Cassi Thompson, Nicky Whelan, Quinton Aaron, and Martin Klebba.

I can’t figure out Cage’s hair anymore. Like, what is he doing? Is it a wig? Is he getting a transplant? Should I apologize in advance for my curiosity?

From a sci-fi perspective, this doesn’t look that bad.
From a Christian perspective, these books are insulting to my faith. Not only are they poorly written, but the theology is incorrect and is not representative of the Christian faith. Christianity is a lot more than the rapture and the end of days, but unfortunately things like this make it seem that way. No wonder everyone thinks we are crazy.

Considering what is in my opinion ridiculous source material that trailer doesn’t look half bad, though that could be credited to whoever cut the preview. As a Christian, this type of end times theology is really only held by Americans. As a thriller sci-fi, it may make an interesting Red Box rental.

Yeah, not looking forward to this. This is the theological equivalent to Santa Claus.

The problem with Christian entertainment is that it always puts the fact that’s it’s Christian entertainment first and foremost. Instead of trying to write a good story, a good song and then add a message they take the message and wrap it in cheap genre stereotypes and then whine and complain when it gets crap reviews and nobody wants to see it.

Constantly amazed at how poor Matt’s writing is. You’d think it would HAVE to get better after a while…

I like supernatural stuff. I like religious fiction. But this is just too stupid even for me.

watch joe and werner herzog´s bad lieutenant, he is great in both, but they didn´t make any money, because people rather pay money to see his bad movies than to see his good movies, which is probably why hollywood prefers to make bad movies.

    Cowabunga!

It still has that TV movie look to it…

That poster is one inch away from having a two headed sharktapus tornado in it. Really bad. I’m going to guess it’s going to open in the Bible Belt and a theater in LA and NYC. The rest of us will have to wait until we find it under a flickering fluorescent light in some gas station DVD bin. :(
