Legendary Picks up Sci-Fi Thriller REMINISCENCE from Lisa Joy; DreamWorks Acquires SPARK from John Twelve Hawks

Here’s a bit of acquisition news for you today:

  • Legendary Pictures has picked up Reminiscence, a sci-fi thriller spec script from Lisa Joy, under their deal with Universal.
  • DreamWorks has acquired Spark, an upcoming novel from writer John Twelve Hawks.

Legendary Pictures has closed a deal for the rights to REMINISCENCE, a sci-fi thriller spec script written by Lisa Joy. Alex Hedlund will oversee production for Legendary.

Joy’s past credits include writing for Burn Notice and Pushing Daisies. Her next project includes writing Westworld with Jonathan Nolan for HBO, which she will also executive produce with Nolan, JJ Abrams, and Jerry Weintraub.

The Wrap reports that DreamWorks will take on Spark from John Twelve Hawks.  Set in the near future, Spark questions “the meaning of freedom and self-determination in a world without either.”  Doubleday will publish the book in the U.S. and U.K. in October 2014.  The Traveler, the first book in Hawks’ Fourth Realm trilogy, is currently in development at Warner Bros.
