DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is teaming up Arrow, The Flash, White Canary, Firestorm, Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Rip Hunter, and The Atom for a fight against immortal time-traveling villain Vandal Savage. And that’s not even all of the exciting news. Joe Dante, the filmmaker behind Gremlins and Gremlins 2, will direct an episode of the new spinoff series.

Arrow creator Marc Guggenheim recently tweeted an image from the script of Legends of Tomorrow episode #108, titled “Night of the Hawk.” In addition to naming Sarah Nicole Jones as co-writer with Cortney Norris, the title page revealed Dante to be the hour’s director. Dante later confirmed the news on his own Twitter page. He has a long list of television credits to his name, including episodes of Salem, Hawaii Five-0, and Witches of East End, and we can only hope that his involvement in Legends of Tomorrow means some high cinematic quality coming for the series.

Given the episode’s title, it’s likely that Hawkgirl/Kendra Saunders (Ciara Renee) and Hawkman/Carter Hall (Falk Hentschel) are the focus of this episode, though there have also been reports that Connor Hawke will be coming to the series. If I may pull out the DC map and speculate wildly for a second, “Night of the Hawk” reminds me of a similarly sounding episode from the Justice League Unlimited animated series. Coincidentally, “Shadow of the Hawk” was about the two Thanagarians who are forced to relive their past lives by a living shadow villain. In the latest Arrow-The Flash crossover episodes, a chained up Carter told Kendra that they were lovers in a past life, so perhaps their story will gain more attention later on.

Legends of Tomorrow will premiere on The CW on Thursday, January 21, at 8 p.m. EST.
