Legends of Tomorrow struggled through its first season. It had a great cast in place, but the storytelling was weak and repetitive plus the main villain was the irritating, lackluster Vandal Savage. But there’s a chance for the show to right the ship in season two, especially with the introduction of the Justice Society of America and the Legion of Doom.

As we previously reported, at San Diego Comic Con, the panel for Legends of Tomorrow revealed that the show’s villain problem is being solved by bringing in not just one great villain, but a whole team — the Legion of Doom. Its members will include Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman), Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher, who played the original Eobard Thawne on The Flash, before he took over Harrison Wells 1.0’s body) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller).

That’s a tremendous line-up, and one worth celebrating. They’ve also got the Justice Society of America with Hourman and Vixen being joined by the yet-to-be-cast Obsidian, Stargirl and Dr. Mid-Nite. That’s a strong line-up and hopefully it will add a nice dynamic as the “Legends” try to sort out a timeline that no longer has the Time Masters in control.

At Comic-Con this past weekend, Warner Bros. Television showed off a first look at Legends of Tomorrow Season 2, and while most of the footage is from season one, the few glances at season two look promising. My main concern is that they’ll once again fall into the trap of being too episodic (the DC shows last year really suffered from being 22 episodes), but at least when it comes to antagonists, the show is set on firepower.

Check out the Legends of Tomorrow Season 2 first look below. The show returns on October 13th.
