New Trailer for THE LEGO MOVIE Featuring the Voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, and Will Ferrell

     October 31, 2013

Warner Bros. has released a new trailer for writers/directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s new film The LEGO Movie.  The story centers on Emmet (Chris Pratt), an average LEGO minifigure who is mistaken for the most extraordinary person in the LEGO world and is looked upon to save his people from an evil tyrant named President Business (Will Ferrell).  This trailer had me laughing out loud multiple times, which is no surprise when you consider that it comes from the hilariously twisted minds of Lord and Miller, the duo behind 21 Jump Street and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.  Pratt feels like pitch perfect casting as the film’s optimistic hero, and this trailer highlights some excellent use of LEGO’s more recognizable IP’s like Batman and Wonder Woman.  Is it February yet?

Hit the jump to watch The Lego Movie trailer.  The film also features the voices of Elizabeth BanksWill ArnettLiam NeesonMorgan Freeman, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, and Cobie Smulders.  The LEGO Movie opens in 3D on February 7, 2014.

Here’s the official synopsis for The LEGO Movie:

The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

Chris Pratt (“Moneyball”) stars as the voice of Emmet. Will Ferrell (“The Campaign”) stars as the voice of his primary adversary, President Business, an erudite, anal-retentive CEO who has a hard time balancing world domination with micro-managing his own life; while Liam Neeson (“Taken” and “Taken 2,” Oscar nominee for “Schindler’s List”) voices the president’s powerful henchman, known as Bad Cop, who will stop at nothing to catch Emmet.

Starring as Emmet’s fellow travelers are Oscar® winner Morgan Freeman (“Million Dollar Baby”), as Vitruvius, an old mystic; Elizabeth Banks (“The Hunger Games,” Emmy nominee for “30 Rock”), as tough-as-nails Lucy, who mistakes Emmet for the savior of the world and guides him on his quest; Will Arnett (Emmy nominee, “30 Rock”), as the mysterious Batman, a LEGO minifigure with whom Lucy shares a history; Nick Offerman (NBC’s “Parks and Recreation”) as a craggy, swaggering pirate obsessed with revenge on President Business; and Alison Brie (NBC’s “Community”) as a sweet, loveable member of the team, with a powerful secret.

Gotta love it when a movie that should be absolute garbage (a Lego movie? Really?) is instead made with genuine passion and wit. So glad that this appears to be more than just a liscensed cash grab.

Just like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. Who thought either of those would be a good idea when they were first announced? Really wish these guys would do a Spider Man movie.

Like Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, this film looks to have enough zany humor and fast-paced action to keep both children and parents entertained for the whole run time. It isn’t often that I look forward to seeing a so-called “kids film,” but I think Legos have a certain cross-generational appeal that we can all relate to, and the jokes had me grinning from ear to ear. It’s pretty incredible that the directors seem to have captured the essence of what it’s actually like to PLAY with Legos and use the imagination, because we all know how much easier it would’ve been to pitch a cheap, shiny, CGI animated film to the studio.

I admit it. I totally laughed out loud at the Invisible Jet joke.

The amount of detail in the cityscapes is almost too much for the human mind to comprehend, I also am a fan of movies that seem to have a sense of fun and un-ironic optimism, which is rare in this day and age. I AM SO IN!
