Universal Pictures has released two new TV spots for director Tom Hooper’s musical adaptation Les Miserables.  The film is sure to be a major contender in the upcoming awards race (though it was shut out of the NYFCC yesterday), and these TV spots do a great job of selling the film as an epic must-see event over the Christmas holiday.  I’ve been looking forward to this for a while now, but I’m interested to see how the pic goes over with audiences as it’s 2+ hours of straight singing.

Hit the jump to watch the TV spots and click here to watch five clips from the film.  The pic stars Hugh JackmanAnne HathawayRussell CroweAmanda SeyfriedEddie RedmayneSamantha BarksHelena Bonham Carter, and Sacha Baron Cohen.  Les Miserables opens on December 25th.

Here’s the synopsis for Les Miserables:

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
