Liam Hemsworth, who is currently filming The Hunger Games, has signed on for the Vietnam-era indie flick, AWOL. Currently, Teresa Palmer (I Am Number Four), Austin Stowell (Puncture) and Aimee Teegarden (Scream 4) are in negotiations, while Chris Lowell (Up in the Air) and Max Adler (Glee) are in talks to co-star in the pic as well. Hemsworth will star as the best friend and comrade-in-arms to Stowell, whose stateside girlfriend (Teegarden) dumps him. Together, they go AWOL and return to their Michigan hometown to win her back. Sounding like less of a war movie and more of a wartime love story, AWOL is set amidst the anti-war counterculture movement at the University of Michigan. Danny Mooney’s directorial debut is slated to start production in Ann Arbor in mid-July. Hit the jump for more info on the principal actors’ upcoming projects.
AWOL casting news comes courtesy of Variety and features a roster of fresh-faced young actors on the rise. Hemsworth, who plays Gale Hawthorne in the aforementioned The Hunger Games, is known for starring in The Last Song with Miley Cyrus. He can next be seen alongside Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Hopkins in Arabian Nights. Stowell is best known for his TV career and role in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but can be seen in the heartwarming Dolphin Tale this fall.
The female leads will feature Teresa Palmer, who was recently seen in Take Me Home Tonight, and Aimee Teegarden, known for her reoccurring role in NBC’s Friday Night Lights TV series. Palmer will star in the upcoming mystery, Say Nothing, is rumored to be in the adaptation of Isaac Marion’s zombie romance novel, Warm Bodies, and will be in the new installment of the Mad Max franchise, Mad Max: Fury Road. Teegarden will star alongside Dennis Quaid in mystery/thriller Beneath the Darkness and in the surfing adventure, Beautiful Wave.
