While the studio has yet to confirm the news, Deadline is reporting that Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) will star in the sci-fi thriller The Raven.  The film is based on the award-winning 2010 short directed and co-written by Ricardo de Montreuil (Máncora, La Mujer de mi Hermano), who will also be at the helm of the Universal Pictures project.  The feature-length film, only described as a sci-fi conspiracy thriller set in the future, will be produced by Stephen Levinson (Entourage) and Mark Wahlberg.  A trailer for the short shows a futuristic world very reminiscent of The Fifth Elementwithout all the glam and lights of city – in which a man is wanted for his supernatural abilities.

This would be the perfect opportunity for Hemsworth to depart from his romance-movie roles and show off more of his action chops and stand-alone power.  His latest project, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, recently wrapped production in March and is set to hit theaters November 22nd. He has a total of four films slated for release this year, including the thriller Paranoia co-starring Gary Oldman and Harrison Ford.  For a look at the trailer for the The Raven short film, hit the jump.
