Steven Spielberg’s long-in-development Abraham Lincoln biopic (creatively titled “Lincoln“) has taken a little too long for Liam Neeson. Originally attached to play our 16th President, the Irish actor told The Digital Spy [via The Playlist] “I’m not actually playing Lincoln now. I was attached to it for a while, but it’s now I’m past my sell-by date.“ I was never crazy about Neeson playing Lincoln, mostly because he has never really been able to pull of an American accent. The only thing he seemed to have going for him is that A) he had worked with Spielberg in the past, and B) his physical stature.
But Neeson may get to play a U.S. President yet. If financing on Lee Daniels’ Selma manages to come through in the next couple of weeks, Neeson will play the Lyndon B. Johnson. As for Spielberg, he is busy directing the World War I drama War Horse. After the constant delays, I can’t help but wonder if he still has any interest in making Lincoln.

NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
F*ck! The only Spielberg flick I want to see and it's down! Think about it: Liam Neeson as Abe Lincoln. Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln. The Civil War. The Emancipation Proclamation. The assassination in the theatre. Dude, his story has everything! But Spielberg prefers to make Tintin and That F*cking Movie About A Boy And His Horse.
The world is crazy…
I agree with, Adrian! I REALLY wanted to see this. Liam Neeson was PERFECT for the role. I can't picture anyone else pull it off. As for the accent, this is early America; people are still pretty fresh off the boat from Europe, it wouldn't be uncommon for people to have hints of a European accent.
And Spielberg's slide into inanity continues…
He'd look great for the part if he hadn't had that facelift.
I hope that Steven Spielberg gets Gore Vidal to consult on the film. One of G. V. 's greatest novels was “Lincoln” which they based a t.v. mini-series on. Beyond that he knows an immense amount President Lincoln and it would be a shame not to use his knowledge of the man.
As to who should play Lincoln? I don't know. That's a tough one. I hope they pick a great character actor rather than a “star”. Maybe they should look at stage actors!
Dude, get over it
