Back in June, Dave told you about the cast being set for the largest independent South American production to date, director Alberto Arvelo Mendoza‘s Simon Bolivar biopic, Libertador. Flash forward a couple of months later and today we’re pleased to bring you the first image of Edgar Ramirez (The Bourne Ultimatum) as the legendary emancipator himself.

Timothy Sexton‘s (Children of Men) script is told from Bolivar’s perspective and focuses on the military campaigns he embarked on in an attempt to unify South America. In addition to Ramirez, Libertador also stars Maria Valverde (Melissa P.), Danny Huston (Children of Men), Imanol Arias (El Lute), and Gary Lewis (Gangs of New York). The first image of Ramirez, who also earns an executive producer credit on the pic, resides after the jump.

  1. Where’s the funding for this film coming from exactly? I’m betting much – if not all – is coming from Hugo Chavez, raiding the Venezuelan people’s taxes to make propaganda films whilst the national infrastructure crumbles, tell me I’m wrong though…
