The first image from director Anton Corbijn’s (The American) upcoming drama Life has landed online. The film chronicles the friendship between Magnum photographer Dennis Stock and actor James Dean as the two took a journey across the U.S. for a 1955 Life Magazine assignment. Dane DeHaan leads the film as Dean, while Robert Pattison takes on the role of Stock. It’s tough to judge how much DeHaan embodies the role of Dean based on this one slightly obstructed image, but the pieces are all in place for a fascinating drama that provides an interesting point of view on Dean’s life.

Corbijn spoke a bit to EW about casting DeHaan and Pattinson as Dean and Stock, respectively:
“When I see Rob I see an inner turmoil that is great for the role. And Dane is really interesting. He has a beautiful face, but it’s a hard face to grasp. It’s hard to see how Dane reads [on screen] sometimes, and the same goes for James Dean.”

DeHaan will next be seen as Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which opens in theaters this May. Pattinson stars in two films opening this year, David Cronenberg‘s Maps to the Stars and the thriller The Rover.
