Just in time for Election Day, a new international trailer for director Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln has been released, and it’s by far the best one yet.  This trailer actually delves into the central focus of the long-in-the-works drama—the passing of the 13th Amendment—and gives us a much better idea of what kind of biopic Spielberg and screenwriter Tony Kushner have crafted.  Much of this trailer is reminiscent of The West Wing, with Daniel Day-Lewis’ Lincoln and his advisers working to secure enough votes to ensure that the amendment will pass.  The trailer also teases the multitude of strong performances from the ridiculously talented ensemble, and I can’t wait to see the whole thing unfold onscreen.

Hit the jump to watch the trailer.  The film also stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, David Oyelowo, Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones, James Spader, John Hawkes, Michael Stuhlbarg, David Strathairn, Walton Goggins, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, Jackie Earle Haley, Lee Pace and Jared HarrisLincoln opens on November 16th.

Here’s the official synopsis for Lincoln:

Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

god, Adam is an idiot. Not the best trailer yet..if anything it’s super uneven and bringing in that cheesy music after the powerful music is unbearably awkward. Dude must be a child.

It’s called an opinion, jackass. They always put their opinions about the trailers, just like I put my opinion of you. On topic, the trailer was pretty good. It looks like a great movie.

Mars, your comment doesn’t make much sense (and no reason to insult Adam). Who cares about the music in the trailer – a trailer is a series of shots from the film that are not in sequence. So not only will the music not be like that in the film, but the scenes won’t even be in that order. So I could say you must be an idiot or a child, but I’ll refrain.

I think Adam was mainly referring to the new footage that we get from the trailer. I agree with his opinion (it is an opinion, after all) that we get more meat in this version. We see more of Lincoln and more of the conflict. It did more to convince me to see the film.

For how much you troll this site Mars, why do you even bother?

I agree, it’s not the best one yet, and the sweeping music should’ve been left out. And Adam tends to bring his opinion into reports, when he shouldn’t. But to call him an idiot? You, sir, are the child.

Best one yet indeed! How hard it is to stand for what is right when so many don’t even see that what they are doing is wrong. Can’t wait. I didn’t know about the DDL voice at first but I don’t even notice it anymore.

Why do I get this weird feeling that Daniel Day Lewis is just too intense an actor
for a guy like even Spielberg to handle?

I see a performance in there, several in fact. But they seem washed over with that sentimental ,
patriotic John Williams type musical scoring , and Spielberg’s visionary framing.

Is it just me? Or is Day Lewis at this point meant only to star in films completely structured around his performances? (I.e. Gangs of New York , There Will Be Blood , even in the Name of the Father, etc.)

What the? You guys are nuts! Adam is right, this trailer is amazing!

If the movie is actually as good as this trailer it will win several Oscars. In reality, from what I’ve heard the movie comes off a bit more like a talky stage drama than a thriller, but I’m still seeing it opening day.
