We have some assorted casting news for you this afternoon. First up, Lindsay Lohan has dropped out of the role of Victoria Gotti in Gotti: Three Generations. According to TMZ “money was an issue, but the various demands of her management team just got out of control.” Apparently no one told Lohan’s management team that their client’s work was going straight-to-DVD and that a supporting role alongside John Travolta and Joe Pesci might be a worthwhile career boost. The news of Lohan’s departure comes on the heels of director Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook) leaving the project earlier this week.
Hit the jump for casting news regarding Nicholas Stoller’s Five Year Engagement and an adaptation of the off-Broadway production Between Us.
[Update: THR now reports that Lohan will be appearing in Gotti, but not as Victoria. She’ll now take on the role of John Gotti Jr.’s wife.]
Deadline reports that Oscar-nominee Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) has joined Nicholas Stoller’s upcoming comedy Five Year Engagement. The film charts the ups and downs of a very long engagement between a couple played by Jason Segel and Emily Blunt. The cast also includes Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, Rhys Ifans and Lauren Weedman. Deadline doesn’t have any details on Weaver’s role, but I’m glad to see her landing a part in a mainstream flick as a result of her outstanding performance in Animal Kingdom. [Update: Variety is reporting that David Paymer (Drag Me to Hell) has also joined the flick, so there’s some more great casting]
Finally, Deadline is also reporting that Julia Stiles, Taye Diggs, Melissa George, and David Harbour are attached to star in Dan Mirvish’s adaptation of the off-Broadway play Between Us. The story concerns “two couples who were friends in school and whose periodic meetings conjure up rivalries and bitterness over unrealized ambitions that get waylaid by money and children.” Filming is set to begin in May.
