Director Paul Weitz got most of the band back together for Little Fockers including Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Owen Wilson, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo and Barbara Streisand. The one name absent from that list is their Meet the Fockers co-star Dustin Hoffman, who did not return for the third film. However, Vulture is now reporting that Universal is “looking into whether Dustin Hoffman might consider a last-minute reprise of his role as Bernie Focker in an effort to funny-up the comedy, which has already wrapped production.”
If you think that sounds ominous, you’ve got to hit the jump for more.
The same article calls the production “troubled” and refers to a Deadline story that said Universal had already acknowledged that the film had problems but thought it would only need a week pick up shots to fix everything in post. This, however, now sounds like a best case scenario. If Hoffman does decide to come back, the film could go back into full production.
Tuesday night in Burbank, CA, passes were being handed out for a test screening of the film so it’s definitely done and out there. Time will only tell if the film will be able hit not only hit the December 22 release date, but be funny to boot.
